You'd Have to be Craaaaaazy Not to Take Advantage of These Amazon Blu-Ray Deals

I guarantee you will NOT have an ounce of buyers remorse if you spend your paycheck on these titles. (Warning: not an actual guarantee)

Awesome, I can finally replace my tattered VHS copy of The Last Starfighter!

Holy crabapples, folks, has anybody taken a peek at the bargain bin on Amazon of sub-$10 Blu-Ray titles? It's a cornucopia of great movies that might convince even the most spendthrift among us to get a new player and repopulate our collections with the new format. Let's take a look at some of the highlights from the over ninety titles available:

2001: A Space Odyssey
Dark City
Terminator 2
Unforgiven
Letters from Iwo Jima
Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus
Megafault
and, of course, The Last fucking Starfighter

Well, they can't all be Oscar-bait (though Starfighter has won an award from the Academy in my brain), but you could also look at it as the perfect opportunity to start exploring what studios like The Asylum have to offer. A twelve-pack of Racer 5 IPA and a fistful of mockbusters? Sign me up!

Thank you Will Smith at our sister site Tested.com for the fabulous tip!

@GoombahMike: Kid, you gotta let go if you're to be  recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada.

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus was just so bad it wasn't good.
CashBaileyon Aug. 6, 2010 at 4:41 p.m.
The DARK CITY Blu is pretty great, apart from some terrible DNR implemented throughout.
ashrielson Aug. 6, 2010 at 4:47 p.m.
I'm still not on board for the high definition transition just yet.
Lwyllon Aug. 6, 2010 at 4:52 p.m.
meh. maybe if there were some good movies I'd care.

wait, scratch that Lord of War is on the list. GO BUY THAT MOVIE!
sissylionon Aug. 6, 2010 at 5:37 p.m.
I will continue to say that Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus isn't actually an entertaining film, and is just a standard "we need to get to the bottom of this" monster film that's very poor in quality and spends most of its time focusing on the human characters and not the titular shark and octopus.

Also, I still don't have any form of Blu-Ray player. Does that make me a bad person?
SomethingCleveron Aug. 6, 2010 at 5:42 p.m.
I've currently only got one blu ray and that is Robocop.  It is all I need.  Though perhaps I'll have to take a look at the list anyhow.  *expects to blow some cash on this and then regret it all later*

Have a Blu-ray player (PS3), but no HDTV. Perhaps later this year I'll be able to actually watch hi-def content.

Too bad there's the shipping charge too. But pretty good deals anyway.
cooljammer00on Aug. 6, 2010 at 7:08 p.m.
I have Prime, but the only movie I can think of getting for my first Blu Ray would be T2.
skrutopon Aug. 6, 2010 at 7:14 p.m.
@Matt: Racer 5 is some good shit, son.
masternater27on Aug. 6, 2010 at 7:32 p.m.
Just to let you guys know most of the bigger stuff is available at Best Buy for the same prices.

2001, American Werewolf, Iwo Jima, etc.

A fellow home theater enthusiast! Yes, Dark City is one of the worst Blu-ray transfers on the market. The AVS forum has some great screen captures to prove this.

2001: A Space Odyssey is required to be in everybody's collection. If I go to your and I can't find a copy on your shelf, I want nothing more to do with you.
Lydian_Selon Aug. 6, 2010 at 10:57 p.m.
$10 for Lorenzo Lamas!? Now that's thrift.

Dig Deeper into 2001: A Space Odyssey

Mankind finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, artifact buried on the moon and, with the intelligent computer HAL, sets off on a quest to discover who made it.
