Cage prepares to start his new life in the Bahamas: a one-man stage revue in a seedy Nassau nightclub.
Cage prepares to start his new life in the Bahamas: a one-man stage revue in a seedy Nassau nightclub.
In what sounds like the plot to a movie he'd star in, Nic Cage has gone missing in the Bahamas. OK, that statement may have a touch of hyperbole in it, but the man is apparently incommunicado and somewhere in that archipelago, on the run from Avi Lerner and what's sure to be a royal goddamn tsunami of lawyer goons after the man fled from his project, Trespass. Stars have been known to flutter in and out of roles as their schedule needs change, but hardly ever two weeks before primary photography begins. There's only one phrase for that: being left in a lurch.

This news came to me via Deadline, whose source seems adamant that Cage is not returning to the set. The film also stars Nicole Kidman and involves the kidnapping of her character by thieves looking to score a quick ransom. In what may have been an early sign that he would be a difficult man to manage on this project, Cage was originally set to play her no-doubt heroic husband, but instead insisted on taking the role of head kidnapper, giving the producers scant time to find a replacement the former character. With neither a husband nor kidnapper the entire project may ultimately have to be scrapped, in which case the claws of the Hollywood lawyers will almost certainly be unsheathed.

Is Cage burned out after his recently hectic filming schedule punctuated by the frantic promo appearances for The Sorcerer's Apprentice? It sounds entirely likely. But unable to deliver just one more memorable performance before packing it in and going on vacation--that's not the Nic Cage I know. C'mon, man, you're going to have Nicole Kidman in your spider web! How fun is that!

Keep makin' those movies, Cage.  You've got a lot of debt to pay off; what with that Bernie Madoff fiasco.

Nicolas cage is insane, and I love him for it. That picture reminded me that Kick-Ass comes out today. Very nice.

I wouldn't mind seeing Nic cage as the bad guy, he definitely can bring some evil craziness.

Maybe he's going proper method... in a few days time, Nicole Kidman will be found to be missing, and all that will be found is a bizarre calling card with an image of a twisted cage on it. His ransom demands are gonna be HILARIOUS.

Nic Cage has discerning taste, guys. Maybe he realized this movie was up to his standards. You know, maybe it just doesn't have enough scenes where bees are poured onto his head.

Never change, Nic Cage. Never change.

Really hope he returns to this, Cage in a villain role sounds incredibly awesome. Remember when Bill Murray wasn't heard from for some time but then he just casually showed up on the first day of shooting for Lost in Translation? I'm guessing this turns out the same way. Nic Cage wanted a bit of a break so he took one.

Guy took off, good for him. Maybe they can just turn the film into a documentary about hunting down Nic Cage like Richard Kimble.

Does Nic Cage ever take vacation? He really should. He's a great actor but he doesn't always have the best taste in movies. He should take some time off and pick some great movies to do when he gets back.

Nicholas Cage is running rampant in the Bahamas without the paparazzi to contain him?!

Somebody has to stop him before it's too late!!!

Ugh, I don't know what I would want Nic Cage to do,  but it isn't Sorcerer's Apprentice...
