Cage prepares to start his new life in the Bahamas: a one-man stage revue in a seedy Nassau nightclub.
This news came to me via Deadline, whose source seems adamant that Cage is not returning to the set. The film also stars Nicole Kidman and involves the kidnapping of her character by thieves looking to score a quick ransom. In what may have been an early sign that he would be a difficult man to manage on this project, Cage was originally set to play her no-doubt heroic husband, but instead insisted on taking the role of head kidnapper, giving the producers scant time to find a replacement the former character. With neither a husband nor kidnapper the entire project may ultimately have to be scrapped, in which case the claws of the Hollywood lawyers will almost certainly be unsheathed.
Is Cage burned out after his recently hectic filming schedule punctuated by the frantic promo appearances for The Sorcerer's Apprentice? It sounds entirely likely. But unable to deliver just one more memorable performance before packing it in and going on vacation--that's not the Nic Cage I know. C'mon, man, you're going to have Nicole Kidman in your spider web! How fun is that!
