The story of Oh Dae-Su, a man who is locked without explanation in a hotel room for 15 years before he attains freedom and seeks his revenge. Oldboy is the second film in Chan-Wook Park's revenge trilogy, following Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance and preceding Lady Vengeance.

Oldboy, based on the Japanese manga "Oldboy" by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya, is the second film in Chan-Wook Park's vengeance trilogy, a series of three thematically-connected films the director made in the early 2000s. Oldboy follows the film Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance and precedes Lady Vengeance.
