Do movie actors actually have sex during sex scenes ?

This has ALWAYS confused me and made me wonder...  
Sometimes it looks as if they're pretending to be shagging while in fact they're just moving back and forth, but at other times, you see ANTONIO BANDERAS and fuckin' ANGELINA JOLIE pretty much fucking hard on a bed. It's impossible that they werent. 
 
So, do they usually actually do it or whats the deal ? Dont tell me this doesnt confuse you too !!

In some movies, the sex is real: 9 Songs, The Brown Bunny, Shortbus. In others, it is simulated. They use a blanket or something...ok that sounds stupid, but I heard somewhere that they use something to cover up genitals, but that it still looks like the actors are having sex.

More often than not, no, they are not having sex... they are actors and they are acting. 
 
That said, there are exceptions to the rule such as The Brown Bunny by Vincent Gallo (Chloe Sevigny performs oral sex in the film) and any number of Lars Von Trier films.  
 
Also - this means someone needs to make "unsimulated sex in films" as a concept page for Screened now.

There is a very thin Sheet between them, Often times they are wearing swim trunks or a bathing suits (When shot from the waist up) Then there is a device the females wear to stop penetration so it just looks real.

Yeah, I used to wonder this when I was younger, and always came to the conclusion that this would be just too weird. Especially if you really did want to have sex with the person.

Not an example from movies, but for what it's worth I've read somewhere that Mark Wahlberg and the Entourage producers only hire supporting actresses for the show that are willing to do the real thing. I'll see if I can dig up a link to verify.
