Plot

  Ned (Rudd) is a well-meaning idealist who after being released from prison for dealing cannabis. Comes back and disrupts the lives and homes of his three sisters Miranda(Banks), Natalie(Deschanel), and Liz(Mortimer).

Ned comes into his sisters lives at the worst time possible; Miranda is a career-driven journalist who is about to get her big break, Liz  who is too concerned with being the perfect mother to notice that her marriage is falling apart and Natalie who can be described as a  bisexual hipster whose lies are preventing her from moving forward with her girlfriend Cindy (Rashida Jones).

The story of Our Idiot Brother was conceived by Jesse Peretz and his sister Evgenia and they created the main character with Paul Rudd in mind. The script itself was written by Evgenia Peretz and her husband David Schisgall, and was original title of My Idiot Brother. Filming took place over six weeks, primarily in various parts of New York City and premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
