Pan's Labyrinth Trivia

  • The subtitles for del Toro's previous film, The Devil's Backbone, were written so poorly that he wrote the English subtitles for Pan's Labyrinth himself.
  • This was Mexico's first entry to the Academy Awards in the category of Best Film in a Foreign Language. It was nominated in 2006.
  • Actor Doug Jones was the only non-Spanish speaker on set when production began. Instead of attempting to deal with the script phonetically, he decided to learn it in its entirety in Spanish. This was later dubbed by a voice actor, though it still proved useful, as the dialog and speech could be matched up easily.
