So I put a blog post about doing a commentary about the movies I saw last year. I will try to do about 33 a day so I can get them all done in a week (very possible it might be two weeks). We shall see how that goes. I might do a ten favorite movies of the year list after I am done but I will be inclusive of every movie from this list not just the ones from 2012. I could also do a separate top ten of 2012, but at what point are there too many lists so at the very least I will do just the ten favorites. I am not a big fan of ranking them so they will be in no particular order. I hope I can provide some laughs and interesting commentary along the way. Hope everyone has had a great start to the new year =D!

1. Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol
I have become rather disenfranchised with action movies as of late, but looking back I did have some fun with Ghost Protocol even with its ridiculous plot. Since I saw it in IMAX, some of the landscape establishing shots like that of the Burj Khalifa definitely blew me away. I am kind of a sucker for pretty landscapes. It was also cool to see Brad Bird take the helm. Get an animation director and see what they can do with a live-action movie is always fun. Not much else to say except it was a fun ride with beautiful, globe-trotting landscapes. |

2. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
I am mainly here for the Jude Law/RDJ chemistry. Plot not really the best thing going for it. Which is sad since it is a Sherlock Holmes movie but whatever. I mean I liked Jared Harris as Moriarty. Just the plot and some of the action scenes just didn't do it for me. Still I am interested to see where Guy Ritchie decides to go from here. |

3. War Horse
First off anytime I do not like a movie, I feel the compulsion to go back and watch it again to see if I maybe missed something, or maybe I was in a shitty state of mind to watch the movie. I don't know. Either way I was kind of disappointed by this and Tintin from Spielberg. In the case of Tintin, I just fell asleep while watching it, so that definitely needs revisiting. With War Horse though, it felt way too saccharine and something along the lines of a Lifetime original movie. All I know is when something happened to the horse the middle-aged lady sitting next to me was bawling while I sat stone faced. Completely not invested. |

4. Infernal Affairs
So apparently this is the film that the Departed was based on, except you know, a lot less cussing compared to the Departed. It was fun. Very much a Hong Kong crime thriller. Probably should watch it again just to be able to fully appreciate the comparison to Departed...but whatever you should watch it if you enjoy crime thrillers. |

5. The Music Room
This is the fourth movie by Satyajit Ray. And to be honest I had to look at the wikipedia page to remember anything concrete about this film. I would like to delve more into Ray's work but right now the only link I can make is that this could be seen as Citizen Kane (end of days for a rich man). Not in the way the story is told but strictly the premise. So sadly this movie did not have a big impact on me :(. |

6. The Adventures of Tintin
So as I started in my comments on War Horse, I was disappointed by Tintin. I will say up front though that I did fall asleep in the theater and I think it was because I was up late the night before. And no matter how interesting the movie is if you are tired you will fall asleep. So in this case I am deriving my feelings of this movie based on the fact I fell asleep during it. In other words, I just need to watch it again to get a better grasp of how I felt about it. It definitely felt like a swashbuckling movie that I could enjoy from the bits and pieces I remember of it. |
