Man I enjoy Amadeus (1984) way too much. Those 3 hours for director's cut just kinda go by...@chrisremo

So after the long and crazy distraction that was the end of Star Wars Galaxies, I am going to post about The Goonies. I mainly watched this movie because of the praise and affection from the Totally Rad Show and because it was an Amblin Entertainment joint. I tried to enjoy it from the perspective that it is a kids movie from the mid-eighties. I was born in the early nineties so that stuff did not necessarily hit me when I was little because my parents where in their twenties so it was not in their field of view.

Anyway I enjoyed it though I had to get past the weird contrivances that pushed the story into them finding the cave and looking for treasure. Also the kid stereotypes did not feel quite right to me, maybe because of it being based in the eighties. The eighties pop soundtrack mixed with that overly whimsical symphony score kind of got on my nerves as it kept popping up when not necessarily interesting things were happening. The annoyance for eighties pop music though may not be a set back because I just do not have a taste for it as a whole so that kept me from not enjoying most of that. As a whole though I did like the adventure to find the lost treasure and some of the obstacles that stood in the characters' way like the ridiculous organ made out of bones. And for some reason I was surprised to see the kid who played Short Round in Temple of Doom in it. Also liked Josh Brolin as the older older brother character. It was probably intentional for the character but man did I not care for Chunk or his truffle shuffle. I know his character is meant to be annoying but man. So for a mid-eighties kids movie I guess I liked it, just some parts of it I was not so keen on. Weird to see the driving force in the story being the kids trying to save their houses from a country club looking to destroy and bulldoze their land to setup a golf course. Such weird plot starter for me, I do not know maybe not for a kids movie.

Anyway looking forward to keeping this blog going, hopefully my writing will get better and more interesting to read along the way. I would like to know your opinion on the movie if you liked, how did it impact you when you were little, etc. It is interesting to watch kids movies now, especially from the eighties and just compare it to the movies and TV targeted at children now. So I am not sure what the next movie will be but hopefully I will post tomorrow. Thanks for reading and if you have any writing tips in general I look forward to hearing them.
