1. Young Adult
3/5 - There are things I liked about this movie, but I wouldn't say I liked the movie |
2. Contraband
3/5 - Very nice pacing to the film, but nothing spectacular overall. Apparently Kate Beckinsale can act? |
3. The Grey
4/5 - Not what I was expecting, but very good. I just had a hard time relating to the story or having it be significant to me as a viewer in any way. |
4. Chronicle
3/5 - Really great premise and set up but the second half and especially ending scenes are complete garbage. I'd appreciate a sequel/second whack at the same idea. |
5. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
1/5 - Saw the 3D version, I remember liking this movie a lot more when I was nine years old. It's really bad. |
6. 13 Assassins
3/5 - It had really amazing reviews but it was kind of boring and lacked any real point. Well-made, but not astounding. |
7. Panic Room
3/5 - Saw this movie forever ago but finally rewatched. Upon second viewing the dialog is pretty corny and elements of the script don't make much sense but it's a good thriller overall. |
8. 21 Jump Street
3/5 - A pretty funny movie, but a little overrated. I'd love to see a sequel |
9. The Hunger Games
4/5 - Very well made. I never read the books and still enjoyed the film, but it's missing that "wow" factor for a higher rating. |
10. The Avengers
5/5 - Elated to see Joss Whedon in charge of a successful film. One of the best action movies ever. Hope this bodes well for the director's career. |
11. The Cabin in the Woods
2/5 - Nifty concept but a pretty un-amusing film. |
12. Donnie Darko
3/5 - (Philosophy Club) It's an ok movie. Nothing stands out about it. |
13. Indie Game: The Movie
5/5 - Wonderful introspect on some genius' in the game developing world. Jonathan Blow continues to amaze me with his intelligence. I'd recommend this to any game-lover. |
14. A Clockwork Orange
4/5 - (Philosophy Club) First time seeing this movie. I respect its history in cinema, but its a bit of drag by today's standards. Still worth seeing. |
15. Prometheus
1/5 - Worst writing in years. Characters suck, plot sucks, movie sucks. |
16. The Sweet Hereafter
2/5 - This block of films are movies I saw for a class I took over the summer. This was one of the first, and it's terrible. |
17. Annie Hall
5/5 - Wonderful movie. Surprised it took me so long to see it and I can now see the (500) Days of Summer comparisons, although they are different films. |
18. Blade Runner
2/5 - I still really don't like this movie, but I've started to understand why people do. Set, costume and digital design are all great. |
19. Raging Bull
5/5 - Great movie, seen it before, I'm a little bored of it now, but still good. |
20. The Piano
1/5 - Piece of shit movie that only leads me to believe all women are mouth-breathing tards with no concept of reality and human emotion |
21. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
3/5 - An interesting movie, but not really much of anything worth talking about. There's not enough there to like or dislike it. |
22. The Ice Storm
4/5 - An interesting look at family relations, but there's something missing to tie it all together. |
23. Do the Right Thing
5/5 - One of the greatest movies of all time. Gets better every time I see it /// End of summer course films |
24. The Intouchables
3/5 - Maybe it was just overhyped, but the movie could've been a lot better. The decided to stick to "accurate" instead of "dramatically poignant." A fine feel-good movie, but had more potential. |
25. The Amazing Spider-Man
4/5 - God damn Emma Stone is dreamy. I thought I'd hate this movie (I wanted to see Spidey 4) but it was all right. I'd say comparable quality to Raimi's Spiderman in 2002. |
26. Quiz Show
4/5 - I think Ralph Finnes might be one of my favorite actors. He's good in this and the story is interesting. Although it drags on for a little longer than needed. |
27. Psycho
3/5 - Super overrated. I guess no movie could live up to twenty years of constant hype (my whole life). Norman Bates was a great character and the second half of the movie has a tense pace, but the entire first hour is so god damn slow. Not just that, it's unnecessary. |
28. The Shining
4/5 - Very good set up and started to solve problems I had with other Kubrick films, but by the last 45 minutes they all came screaming back. Way too methodically paced, ruins a lot of the tension. |
29. Puncture
1/5 - I watched this movie in 10 minutes bites over several days and I think if I hadn't done that I would've never finished it. Why did the pick Captain America to be a drug addict attorney who is completely unlikable? |
30. It's a Wonderful Life
3/5 - A fine movie for its time, but super cutesy for today's. Wow, the guy who acts like a saint gets screwed over... then magically forgiven! It was fine to watch but a little corny. |
31. How to Train Your Dragon
4/5 - It was all right. |
32. Total Recall
1/5 - Really awful. Lens-flare and slo-mo the movie. |
33. The Bourne Legacy
3/5 - Could've been much better if they didn't waste the first 45 minutes on backstory. Norton was underused. |
34. 25th Hour
3/5 - I enjoyed most of it but the ending is pretty dumb and betrays the rest of the movie. |
35. Titanic
4/5 - I felt inclined to rewatch this on Blu-Ray. It's still a good movie. Re-watching made me notice that the first scene between Jack and Rose is very awkward and the CGI in this movie is very noticeable. |
36. The Raid: Redemption
4/5 - Very well-done choreography and they portrayed the villains in a memorable way. However it suffers form Third-World movie-making, sound design is consistent and the CGI blood looks really fake. |
37. MirrorMask
3/5 - I thought they introduced the world very well toward the beginning, but it lost sight of itself very quickly. |
38. Vera Drake
3/5 - An interesting movie about abortion/women's rights but it comes to a crawl in the second half. |
39. Dog Day Afternoon
5/5 - A really great movie, I've seen it before and still really enjoyed seeing Sonny's story and Sal's arc. |
40. The Master
2/5 - I didn't really like it. Very pretentious and difficult to pay attention to. Damn shame. |
41. Some Like It Hot
3/5 - It's a cute 50s comedy. Parts of it are still funny. The first act drags quite a bit. |
42. The Killing
3/5 - One of Kubrick's firsts. It was ok. Not really worth going back to. |
43. Looper
5/5 - Good twist on time travel. Levitt's mimicking of Willis' mannerisms and speech patterns were terrific. |
44. Terms of Endearment
3/5 - Really cheesy music and I wanted to shoot myself for the first thirty minutes... but the later parts of the movie actually say something really meaningful I think. |
45. Flawless
3/5 - A well-made movie but the method of the actual heist is pretty stupid. |
46. Citizen Kane
4/5 - I finally saw it and... it was pretty good. It's hard to enjoy it as much as historians and critics since I obviously was not alive when it first came out... but it holds up surprisingly well. |
47. Enchanted
3/5 - I want to like this movie more than I actually liked it, but it was actually well-done. I think it'd work well as a family film. |
48. White Heat
1/5 - Unlikable characters and very slow pace. |
49. Gentleman's Agreement
1/5 - Maybe the most boring film I have ever seen. |
50. Seven Psychopaths
1/5 - Awful. Disjointed and nonsensical in the worst of ways. I was really disappointed. This same director made In Bruges, which I loved. |
