Is Paris Burning?.
A solid, non-Anglo-washed take on the liberation of Paris: Frankly, Is Paris Burning? is an odd duck. It's an ensemble film about the French Resistance made in the US, but unlike most similar ensemble films, with a cast made up predominantly by the ethnicity depicted in the film (with the exception of Orson Welles' character), but unlike films like Tora Tora Tora, all the characters are speaking in English (with the exception of Hitler).Still, it's a very good film, ...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Vlog - Stands up at 24 FPS: One thing I failed to mention about the film, is Barry Humphries amazing performance as the Great Goblin. I almost feel bad about the character not appearing to later films, because he's absolutely amazing here. He injects a lot of life and flair into a character who could have potentially become a blustering villain. He also has what could be, quite possibly, the greatest last words ever spoken in film.

The Dark Knight Rises.
Better than Batman Begins, not as good as TDK: Another video review this time, and spoiler-free.Notes: I do realize that Goyer is credited for the story, not the screenplay - but Bane's "99%-er speech" feels like something that Goyer used in an earlier draft of the screenplay, or in his story notes, and was kept when the Nolans wrote the script.

Battleship.
Oh, my God, the padding.: So, I went and saw Battleship, and made it halfway thorough the film before I gave up. That said, this film is, frankly, padded all to hell - enough that even with what little I've seen, I cannot recommend seeing it in the theater.
