Many interesting choices. I think some are way off with maybe a few spot on choices. Maybe I'll do a mixup here.
As for Arnold's character, I've nothing against Tom Hardy despite how much I hated him in Nemesis. Heck, it wasn't even his fault I hated him in that movie. It was just such an awful script. I think he has maybe his own brand of intensity though that would make the film probably more of a serious one. Jon Hamm seems an interesting choice; unfortunately I've not seen much of him so I can't really say. Jason Statham...fuuuuuuuuuuck no! That guy is incredibly boring to me. He may have an edge when it comes to action schlock, but really that's not all Total Recall was. Far from it actually. Yes, I know it was originally Arnold and that's what that guy did, but c'bon! Gerard Butler? Nah.
For Melina, Jennifer Connnely? Are you fucking kidding me? Who isn't seriously bored of her by now? And if you weren't, you'd probably prefer not to see her in this kind of movie anyway. While I liked that Zoe bitch in the new Star Trek movie, she's already in everything now anyway. And even though Rosario Dawson nearly is now as well, I think she'd be the compromise here. And she's the more logical answer to that original Total Recall chick. I don't know who those other two chicks were but maybe one of them could replace the midget hooker or the three-boobed one.
For Cohaagen I actually think Billy Zane would work just fine. No particular reason. I just wouldn't be that interested in any of the other choices even though the Mortal Kombat guy seems the morelogical choice. I really liked him in Rising Sun...
Totally agree with Stanley Tucci for Richter. And you people should know, you can't just cast Gary Oldman in whatever the hell you want and think he's gonna make it golden. He'll give his best performance sure, but even he couldn't make Book of Eli tolerable. I love Cillian Murphy but I'm just not conceptualizing him here.
Kuato: Scarlett Boobhansen? Are you fucking kidding me? Again with the three-boobed hooker. Just cast her as that awesome chick. If Scarlett was willing to lower herself for a brief cameo as an alien with three giant jugs, I'd respect her all over again. Nicolas Cage can just go die, so no, not him. Michael Cera could be the midget hooker actually. Fuck that guy and his "Oh, sorry, was there a camera there? I was distracted by how aloof I am" face. I can't believe more people can't stand this guy. I might lean toward Seth McFarlane if I wasn't burned out on him from constantly watching Family Guy on three different networks and my Netflix account. Which I guess leaves Steve Buscemi. Yeah just make it be that guy
Alex - Its hard to pick out specific grind house filmshttp://www.screened.com/profile/tepidshark/
I enjoyed the movie Grindhouse from 2007. What movies would you suggest to look up to learn more about the history of Grindhouse cinema?

Only one director holds the distinction of winning the Academy Award for Best Director and was born outside of Europe or the United States. That director is Ang Lee of Taiwan and he is the only Asian to have won the award for best director. Now I'm not claiming the Academy Awards of being racist. The awards are centered around and in Hollywood and naturally have a pro-Western slight to them, and the lack of exposure of Eastern films in the US naturally means they dont get the attention they deserve. But it still sucks and I was wondering if you guys could come up with any living non-European or American filmmakers from the East that you think deserve a little more recognition.

Dear Matt, Alex and maybe guest?
I was wondering if you've ever seen the Kurt Russell film Soldier? Assuming that you have I was curious what you thought about the writer of the film, David Peoples, said about it's relationship to Blade Runner, which he also co-wrote. He said that he considers it a to be set in the same universe as Blade Runner and that it's based on things that are referenced in the film and in works by Phillip K Dick. To be honest I quite like the film in general and saying it's set in that world, which it seems to fit into very nicely, only makes it better.
Just curious what you thought,
Alex - never seen ithttp://www.screened.com/profile/milkman/
What do you guys think of 2010: The Year We Make Contact? I don't think anyone would argue that it's better than 2001 but is it worth watching or is it as unecessary a sequel as it seems?
Alex - He does die alothttp://www.screened.com/profile/crazycraven/
With the recent sad passing of Pete Postlethwaite and increased analysis of his body of work, it got me thinking:-
Does Pete Postlethwaite have the best appearance to death ratio in modern film history? Looking over his film credits he dies in almost all of the films he is in.
Alex - Wanted is a fun dumb movie.

I've always held Angelina Jolie in high regard. Recently though, I've come to realize she has never starred in a good movie. Therefore, I've come to the conclusion that her appeal is purely sexual and my teenage tastes wer adversely clouded by hormones. What are your thoughts on this? Are there any Jolie movies worth watching outside of camp appeal?
Alex - Nohttp://www.screened.com/profile/triphos/
Everytime I sit down to watch Aliens I realize I'd rather be watching Starship Troopers. Is this normal?

There are many actors that I usually cannot stand for some various reason or another. Among the likes of Vince Vaughn, I have also developed a hate for Ben Affleck over the years, possibly because of the over saturation of the whole JLO thing. With much dismay, I sat down to watch The Town last night, honestly expecting to find a shitty movie, thinking there was no way I would like it. Much to my surprise, I witnessed a great movie and a good performance by Affleck. This leads me to the question, are there any actors out there who you cannot stand, and have any of them put in performances that you actually found yourself to enjoy even though you dislike them?

I was wondering yesterday why there don't seem to be any horror movies set in older time periods. Obviously, something like "Friday the 13th: Jason Crashes Camelot" is asking for too much, but you can't be telling me that you couldn't do some kind of supernatural horror/thriller from older times.
