Has Samuel L Jackson ever played a character that isn't some sort of idealized or extremely masculine figure? The only one I could come up with is The Caveman's Valentine where he was the crazy piano dude.

Alex  -  Goodfellas Gary - The Red violin

Not to be traitorous, but over the last few years I can't help but feel that not only has television and video games matured as storytelling mediums, they have actually become superior to film in a multitude of ways. By no means does this signify that I am turning my back to the art form, but it's got me thinking: in what ways do you think film is superior to any other form of storytelling? Something specific to the medium that no other can emulate with equal results.

Matt   - Film attracts the talent
Gary   - Its foolish to claim one medium is better than another

Hey Rorie and Alex, I was wondering  what your thoughts are on how Cartoon Network has more live action stuff then cartoons. What happened to the good old days of Cartoon Network?

Alex - Just rename it Adult swim
Matt - They have evolved

I find that when actors who usually play comedic roles play a sinister character it can be really effective if done well.  I particularly liked One Hour Photo with Robin Williams and John Lithgow's guest spot in Dexter, which was made even more creepy due to the fact that it was John Lithgow playing an incredibly insane killer.

Can you guys think of any performances that fall into this category that you've liked, or even any that have been a disaster?

Alex - The Fan
Matt - Number 27
Gary - 1 hour photo

Quote(s) of the week

Alex to Gary - I would love to inspect your bonafide

Gary, when asked if he was disappointed not to be nominated for original screenplay - I was just happy not to get a Razzie

Alex -  Biutiful is the cinematic equivalent of a blanket party. Like its ... Just a bunch of dudes ganging up on you, throwing a blanket over your head and beating you with various objects for 2 and a half hours.
