CrazyCraven (Level 28)

Today is not the day for things to be going so wrong. I'm to tired and frustrated to deal with this kind of BS.

Show Number - 33
Date - 20th December
Host(s) - Alex & Matt
Guest(s) -  Jeff Gerstmann

Show Description -

It seems only fitting that our last podcast of the year happens to be our longest podcast EVER. We're joined early on by a very special guest for our discussion of all things TRON: Legacy, and then Alex and Rorie are left to their own devices as they briefly acknowledge the existence of Yogi Bear and How Do You Know, discuss other 2010 films they've been catching up on (including Splice, Monsters, and Blood Into Wine), take a whole plethora of user questions (and run off on some side tangents in the process), and also clue you in on our plans for our year end awards. Did I mention this is our LONGEST PODCAST EVER? Because it totally is. Happy holidays!

User Questions

aetheldod   http://www.screened.com/profile/aetheldod/
My question , which is the Screencast favorite Old/Early cinema film?    i.e. mine is Passion of Joan Ark by Carl Theodor Dreyer made in 1928

Matt - Metropolis
Alex - I've not seen enough

TeflonBilly  http://www.screened.com/profile/teflonbilly/
I've managed to avoid anything Yogi Bear related since "Good things come in bears" until finally getting around to seeing all three trailers after listening to the last Screencast.

Anna Faris is in this!? Seriously, she is less discernible than Al Pacino about what movies she's in.
I genuinely feel that she's one of the few women with genuine comic charisma and timing in Hollywood the last few years, she is consistently the one shining beacon in a puddle of cinematic diarrhea.
I mean, she was awkwardly gawky, yet fun opposite Rob Schneider(!) in The Hot Chick. She was charmingly ditzy in those awful Scary Movies (Even showing some flashes of Leslie Nielsen of old in scenes when Leslie Nielsen didn't)
And goshdarnit, I actually like Just Friends and thought her spoiled Britney parody character was spot-on.

Your thoughts on her?

Matt - I enjoy some of here ditsy roles
Alex - She was perfect in Lost in translation

How do you guys feel about the Judd Apatow directorial catalog? Bear in mind that if you say anything negative about 40-Year-Old Virgin, I will flick you in the testicles.

Alex - He needs to edit is movies

01:31:00 - Alex breaks the 1 swear per minute mark

Favorite film ending movies? (Songs)

Two of my favorites are from 2010, "Festival" by Sigur Ros ("I NEED HELP!" scene from 127 Hours), "Due Tramonti" by Ludovico Einaudi (in what I can only describe as "The Descent" from I'm Still Here). And of course, "Where is my Mind?" by The Pixies, and covered by City Wolf (Fight Club and Observe & Report)

Alex - the age of aquarius the 40 year old virgin

Do you guys have any foreign directors that you feel are unappreciated or perhaps unknown in the West?

Matt - No

iAmJohn -  http://www.screened.com/profile/iamjohn/
So I know you guys have a deep and abiding love for movie posters, but I'm wondering what, to you guys, makes a memorable or successful poster?  Is there a certain style or design aesthetic you gravitate towards or you think makes for a more compelling design?  Is there any movie you can remember being sold on seeing solely because of the poster?

Matt - no
Alex - I like minimalist posters

What do you think about the early-00s Frat Pack Comedy Bloc (Stiller, Owen, Black, Farrell) vs. the late-00s Apatow Comedy Bloc (Rogen, Segel, Cera, Hill)?

Matt - Stiller star has fallen
Alex - I'm looking forward to the new muppett film

In honor of TRON week I want to ask this simple question: Do you think Daft Punk have a chance at getting the Oscar for best Score?

 Daft Punk - Tron Legacy
