1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
this film influenced me a lot and basically what it's done really well is it's sense of design. And it's the tactile feeling of the lighting and the texture of stop motion that make me think more of what animation can be |

2. The Iron Giant |
3. Akira
There's something quite shocking the violence comes out in the early parts of the film, all mixed into this hyper fast surreal bike chase and then later put into these political scenes and then science fiction mumbo jumbo. A lot of what works is how things stumble, break and fall, it's not about beautiful stylish movement like majority of animation but really just those flaws into this madness that the film ends with. |

4. Adventures of the Road-Runner |
5. The Batman Superman Movie |
6. Toy Story 2 |
7. 101 Dalmatians
unlike other Disney films what draws me back to this film because it's the first film they reproduced the original pencil lines in the cell. Actually it's a bit of mistake and not cleaned up like they were before and after disney films. Those small little break down of the heads and eyes, and how unclear the black is, it's a charming texture quality that doesn't feel perfection. |

8. The Wrong Trousers
I'm more of a sucker for creating atmosphere then just jokes-per-minute. And what Nick Park does well is try super hard to be Hitchcock and then just have delightful joy over how silly these character are. |
9. Cowboy Bebop: The Movie
I'm just a sucker for the music of this series, and one top of that the attention to detail. Although it's clear their inspired by so much pop culture, in fact the original Japanese title is "Knocking of Heaven's Door." And it's amazing just how many different backgrounds they travel in the span of 2 minutes, inspired by NYC, Morocco and France and all of them somewhat related. |
10. Sleeping Beauty
simple as this story is it just has amazing amazing design and just beautiful sense of atmosphere |
11. Lilo & Stitch
I'm not too much of Formula Disney films, I just love how bold and ambitious from it's watercolor backgrounds to it's unorthodox story it packs one hell of a punch just going out there and being different |
12. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker |
13. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind |
14. The Castle of Cagliostro |
15. Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland |
16. The Jungle Book |
17. The Amazing Screw-On Head
I'm such a Mike Mignola fanboy that it's almost unbearable. And how can I not be, it's so beautifully gothic, just lots and lots of black with historical statues while cartoonie characters stand there looking goofy. Probably the only film representation of Mignola without just changing into a completely different style. |
18. The Secret of NIMH |
19. The Three Caballeros |
20. The Little Mermaid
within all of the return to form Disney animated films this is a film I keep coming back to and a lot of it is Glenn Keen's animation on Ariel. There's just a lot of acting especially when half the story she doesn't speak, brilliant animation. |
21. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm |
22. The Incredibles |
23. Heavy Metal
I'm a sucker for ANYTHING Anthology, I love seeing multiple styles all intertwine one another. Some stories fail while others are just mind blowing. |
24. Ninja Scroll
Over the top, that's how I love my action, just insane and wonderful fluidity with some amazing set pieces. |
25. My Neighbor Totoro |
26. Ghost in the Shell
Haunting, cold and ethereal. |
27. Ratatouille
It's a special film that came at the right time in my life. I don't think it's so much the animation itself, because if it was that, then I'd say "WHY CAN'T THE FILM BE 2D like those closing credits?" Still the message is profound and deeply resonates with me about being a critic and fighting for what you love. |
28. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust |
29. The Emperor's New Groove
ERTHA KITT! I'm Bias, always Loved Ertha Kitt from the original Batman series, and here it works so well. Now it's more jokes per minute and it feels more like Warner Brothers then Disney |
