I'm hoping for a switch for the better but they are turning around the next one so quickly that I wonder if even a great director has time to get acclimated. That being said I think one Matthew Rorie's twitter suggestion of Kathryn Bigelow is a really good one.

I saw it today and I'm about three quarters of the way through the novel (go go bandwagon!). I agree with Rorie that a lot of the subtext, especially around the love-triangle is lost. Some of this is picked up by additional scenes involving the Gamemakers but its a little sloppy. They also rush a bit too fast past some scenes which results in some under-developed characters, a few plot ...

This smells like studio accountant spin to avoid having to pay out the profits, similar to that Harry Potter situation. Either that or somebody needs to stop spending so much damn money on traditional advertising.

I find it interesting that John Carter almost made exactly the same amount as Prince of Persia, Disney's last attempt at starting a big PG-13 blockbuster franchise. And just like Prince of Persia its doing better overseas. John Carter is a better movie than PoP.

Saw it at a matinee today. Went in expecting it to be decent considering the director's pedigree and ended up really enjoying it.If I was to compare it to Disney's last attempt at starting a big budget franchise, Prince of Persia, I would say this fairs a lot better. Prince of Persia never managed to go beyond decent, despite me really wanting to like it due to Jordan Mechner's involvement. ...

Wow those Muppets vs Smurfs numbers make me so depressed. The third chipmunks movie also did $331. Which translates to a lot of terrible parents out there.

I saw La Luna and The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore at Siggraph last year. They are both fantastic.

If I could only see one it would easily be The Secret World of Arrietty, in fact its probably the only one I will actually see, depending on how a couple of the others are reviewing.

Guy Pearce must Escape from Butcher Bay. Seriously though, I think this looks like it could be alright, maybe not great but fun and dumb,

Adventures of Tintin is John Williams best score in years so I would be happy to see that win.

That is a pretty good creepy fake laugh.

Maybe there will be a low tension episode of Alcatraz, like "The team has a large meal and is sleeping it off but could the meal have been poisoned...probably not."

Every episode should involve him hanging upside down, missing an arm, and shooting Superman with a kryptonite arrow.

For some reason I saw the title of the article and thought "What's Up, Tiger Lily?". I guess that not really a detective movie.

@Rorie said:@AssInAss said:I'm just surprised with the amount of wealth Lucas has, he didn't just self-finance an all-black action film instead of go through the outdated Hollywood studio system. He may have. That's what he did with the prequels; he made them himself and just had Fox distribute them (at a significant discount to their normal fees). Making movies isn't that difficult, but you really need a studio to distribute a ...

Alvin and the Chipmunks continuing to beat Tintin is so depressing. Over the holidays I was visting my parents who are living in a small Northern BC town and I was hoping to take them to see Tintin but Sherlock Holmes 2, Alvin and MI: Ghost Protocol were the only movies throughout both weekends. At least in BC it seems like the theaters are somewhat reluctant to dedicate many screens ...

Cybexx commented on Alex's article Alex's Top 15 Films of 2011.
I think Winnie the Pooh got murdered by Deathly Hallows Part 2, at least in Vancouver it was really hard to find a theater playing it as most theaters were desperately trying to find more screens for Harry Potter. If Deathly Hallows Part 2 wasn't such a good movie this would be reprehensible. So really you can just blame Disney for sending it out to die, at least it barely ...
