Hunger Games is the only movie I've come into the month interested in, though that's just from reading the books. I'm actually interested to see if the movies can flesh out the world more, as I thought the books had good characters but the world wasn't really well constructed. The other big releases all look pretty bad.

Still think its really weird how quickly we went from the original Spiderman movies, which played a big part in the comic book movie revival, to a complete reboot. Not that I'm complaining that much, given that I like all of the actors in this more than the original. But it's still weird.

I think Lady in the Water hurt my brain more, but it has to be the Last Airbender. Just an objectively awful movie in every way possible, despite working with ostensibly good source material, with terrible 3D as the shitty bonus.

Deathpooky commented on Alex's staff review The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
That matches up what I remember from the book. I spent the first 100-200 pages wondering why this was getting so much adulation and fighting through large swaths, then blasted through the rest once the story got going and the duo got together and the investigation started to come together. Sad that the screenwriter couldn't do more to solve that, but I suppose you can't stray too far from the ...

1. Brave - never sell Pixar short.2. Gravity - I like space and Alfonso Cuaron.3. Hunger Games - I think the movies could turn out better that the books, and the first book was actually good.World War Z would be on this list if I wasn't convinced it's going to go down in flames.

CGI would probably work better than child actors, but I can't see this turning out well regardless. Ender's Game is a book filled with children who are in every respect not conventionally childlike and I have no trust in a movie to execute on that concept properly.

Man it would be awesome if they went for a hard R and had all the chipmunks murder each other as society breaks apart. But no, chipmunk high pitched covers of pop songs it is.

Deathpooky replied to the topic Netflix, your opinions? on the Netflix board.
Dropped streaming after the price hike since I never really used it given the selection. Dropped DVDs after the Qwikster announcement when it seemed like Netflix was completely going batshit insane and trying to kill off DVDs. Don't expect I'll return unless streaming makes a huge advancement in content quality.Planning to use some combination of on demand movie watching service and hoping Amazon Prime streaming comes to Xbox for the ...

Netflix seems like quite the sad story now. They created an entire new market, built up tons of customer goodwill, and destroyed the old way of movie rental. And now it looks like all that will be gone in just a couple of years. I'm not an expert but those debt numbers look crazy - did they terribly overpay for streaming rights and then not get the return they expected ...

Episode 2 by far gets my vote as the worst of the bunch. Senate machinations and some of the worst-acted and written love scenes I've ever seen. When they literally rolled around on the ground together I almost walked out of the theater on my first viewing, even as a Star Wars fan who watched Episode 1 at least a few times with rose-colored glasses. That, more than the terrible ...

Memento and Fight Club would be my tops. Both were good movies in their own right up until the twist, and the twist only serves to enhance the whole experience more than anything and compliment the movie that you've seen up to that point. Fight Club is also one of the few movies that foreshadows the twist throughout the entire movie, without becoming defined by the twist like the Sixth ...

Deathpooky commented on Alex's staff review Moneyball .
As someone who both loves Moneyball, for bringing Sabremetrics to the masses and explaining it in a relatable way, and hates Moneyball, for turning it into a geeks versus jocks battle for the soul of baseball instead of just an additional tool for understanding the game, it sounds like this movie captures both of these for better or worse. Definitely looking forward to seeing it regardless.

Agree completely. Julia Child is a character (and person) that is universally loved, while Julie is a fairly self-absorbed whiny brat who we have to watch epitomize first world problems by struggling to write a blog for a year. For those that liked the biopic side, I'd highly recommend both Julia Child's cookbooks and her real books - both are excellent, though the cookbooks would probably work better if you ...

For truly comprehensive movie and TV coverage - say within one month of broadcast / DVD release - I'd probably pay around $30 a month. The problem is that they can't guarantee that. At this point I've given up paying for Netflix Streaming because I don't like paying for something that unreliable when it comes to delivering what I actually want to watch. It's a great added bonus, but not ...

Excellent choice, one of my favorite movies. Even though I've seen it a dozen times (and knew the result before seeing it), the end reentry scene always makes me tense up and tear up. It's also a great movie to watch with older relatives, who likely have their own memories having lived through these events. I think that's how Lovell's family best fits in - all the other major characters ...

The one good thing about this? It reminded me to cancel Instant Watch and go DVD only on my Netflix account, right before they charged me!I can see re-upping with Instant Watch later if it gets better, but at this point I feel like I've watched everything on there and there are enough other sources for mindless things to put on in the background instead of something from instant watch.
