I have to say Miller's Crossing is also one of the best gangster films ever made (speaking of The Untouchables), and another great Gabriel Byrne role (speaking of The Usual Suspects), on top of being one of the most underrated (or at least overlooked) movies ever.

Not surprising, and honestly I want it to be this way. I've been following the news about this movie at a slight distance for a long time now. I want concrete details, but I'm the most spoiler-sensitive person on the earth maybe. I think if this movie even approaches the level of brilliance of The Dark Knight, it will be one of the greatest trilogies ever, in my opinion. There's ...

It was hard to ignore a possibly huge David Lynch influence in a lot of Tim and Eric's comedy, but then I remember reading one interview where one of them compared their creepy sense of humor to that of David Lynch, so it made a lot of sense to me. And it helps that I love most of what David Lynch has done.

I'm not too into Star Trek, didn't love the 2009 movie, but I'll see pretty much anything Benicio del Toro chooses to be in.

Even though it would be obvious to include The Usual Suspects, I think it deserves a mention simply because the twist is preceded by a "false" twist, the filmmakers got us to believe for a moment something that, in retrospect, made no sense. Then the final revelation comes, and you, like the cops in the movie, feel stupid for not realizing it sooner as there were plenty of clues. Also, ...

The Way of the Gun was added to streaming and so was The Thing...I own both, not sure exactly when they were added, but both = essential.

Roger Ebert gave Human Centipede no stars...no, not zero stars, he just didn't give a rating, but he gave a review. I think his point was that it's not a movie that needs any kind of rating, it speaks for itself. I haven't seen the movie, I feel I will eventually, yet I also feel that I've watched a few other movies that are potentially more disturbing. Your description of ...

I'd put the Thing at number 1, and Cronenberg's the Fly number 2...and the reason it may not count for this list is the reason I find it more terrifying, it's created from two existing creatures, and seeing Jeff Goldblum gradually transform into a monster (at first, inwardly and figuratively, then outwardly and literally) is frightening because there's a stark reality to it. The transformation starts because Jeff is depressed and drunk, ...

I agree, you might enjoy my review of Avatar I did a while back. I tried to like it, I really did, but it's hard to believe this comes from the guy who gave us Aliens and Terminator 2, two of the best action movies ever made. T2 used CG of course too, but it never appeared fake or cartoony. I understand that creating "liquid metal" through CG is easier ...

In the movie Ed Wood, definitely not. In everything else...eh, pretty much.

@CashBailey said: @fishinwithguns said:There's Hitchcock-esque dread and tension looming everywhere (Ebert also compared it to Hitchcock).Surely no other director working can sustain such a palpable atmosphere of dread and unease than Lynch. He even managed it on a network television show, TWIN PEAKS, which is still genuinely scarier and more disturbing than 95% of horror films released since it aired. I just started watching Twin Peaks again, I just paused an ...

@JEC03: Thanks, man. The more I get into Lynch, the more I see these movies as I introduce them to more and more people, the more I start seeing them differently. Of course I start to "get" other pieces of the puzzle, notice details here and there, etc. I used to be like "don't think about it too hard, only Lynch will ever truly understand it and that's how he ...

Sometimes a director gets incredible freedom to create their magnum opus. Sometimes they learn it's good to have some boundaries.

Eastern Promises, anything by David Lynch but for this I nominate Wild at Heart, avoid if not a fan of Willem Defoe playing the creepiest motherfucker every portrayed on screen and fear orgasms. Yes, I know that doesn't make sense.
