Never watched the Comedy Central episodes, but have seen all of the Fox ones multiple times. I watched them a lot when they were on Adult Swim. Saw one of the DTV movies, and it just turned me off to the whole thing. Too self-aware of it's own novelty, I dunno, just didn't have the same appeal anymore.

No image problem here. Knowing Harmony Korine's work, trumping expectations should be expected. This is the director that brought us Trash Humpers and this Die Antwoord short film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMVNjMF1Suo.

@staceywi: Too many to list them all, but Foo Fighters - Everlong is one of my favorites, where you can see some of Michel Gondry's Science of Sleep ideas 10 years before that film. Also I love the giant phone, and always wondered what happened to it after the shoot. Some others: No Age - Fever Dreaming, The Chemical Brothers - Elektrobank, Michael Jackson - Beat It. Special mention to ...

Hi Stacey, nice you meet you. Do you have any favorite music videos?

Stalker is my favorite Tarkovsky, and honestly one of the greatest films of all time. I put no qualifiers on that. No aspect of the movie is less than amazingly rich. Even thinking about the movie brings about an emotional response for me, and not because it relates to something specific from a point in time in my life. It's all there in the film. Incredible.

Networks totally matter. AMC became a recognizable scripted TV brand after Mad Men and viewers were eager to see what the network would put out next to fill out their portfolio. Neither Breaking Bad or Walking Dead get this kind of recognition without that branding boost.

Excellent piece. My own viewing of Kurosawa works is painfully meager (only a handful of films), so further recommendations are greatly appreciated. I hadn't even heard of these 3. Also, I think you meant "All three are superb" at the end of the 2nd paragraph.

By coincidence, just watched this movie for the first time last week. I found the driving theme to be a commentary on wealth and upper class isolation. The rich play the game because they have all this money to spend and no real thrill in their lives otherwise, plus it gives them something fun to talk about with other players and yet another exclusive club to belong to. I found ...

@rem25: @obscurefan: I haven't heard the podcast but will check it out. I think the efforts of the Screened community have been pretty great in the interim, but I just want it to actually be an interim. I see a strong community presence as a key factor in having a site like this that I want to spend significant time with. For me, I just need that strong editorial staff ...

I'll keep checking Screened until my WM membership runs its course. I'll continue to pay for GB membership, but if things haven't gotten interesting around here within the next month or two, I can't see renewing with WM or coming back to Screened in general. The site needs appealing personalities, and consistent amounts of quality, original videos, podcasts, and writing. Screened is lacking every item on that list right now. ...

@mbkish: I'm into the growly voice. I listened to an audiobook version read by Matt Dillon, and loved it. This puts out a similar vibe. Kristen Stewart does make me leery of the whole project though.

@LaserLambert: you're right about the name, but Frankenweenie is the dog, which was a bull terrier in the original short so I'm guessing that's what they were going for here. I really loved the original short as a kid.

Soderbergh is a master of style, but his version doesn't hold a candle to Tarkovsky's take.
