There's no way it isn't Collateral. That film has a pantheon of fabulous qualities outside of Cruise's performance, but he fits so well in the brooding atmosphere Michael Mann creates.

The Matrix, obviously, but perhaps moreso (and for less blatantly quotable reasons), Dark City.Pitch Black is high on my list of really stellar sci-fi films. It doesn't come to mind for a lot of people right away, but I'd certainly call it worthwhile.Anyone with me on Scanners? Because I think that movie is fucking great.

Related, but not totally: Also interesting that a film's success is basically governed by its opening weekend. I feel like we've grown as a collective of movie-goers a tendency not to see films after their opening weekends/weeks. And so if a film, especially a tentpole flick, performs poorly in its first weekend, it is an ostensible failure.

Spider-Man 2 is the only one of the Spider-Man movies that holds up. X-Men and X-Men 2 and First Class are all really close, in terms of quality, and Captain America is a legitimate dark horse.I'll take Spider-Man 2 as best but Captain America as my favorite.
