My favourite movie of 2011 was Tron Legacy, even though it came out 2010, I watched the hell out of it in 2011 - so good!!

Not Just Bourne as a Woman

Kind of marketed as a "Bourne as a Woman" kind of film, this movie is actually a different entity altogether. I was relieved to discover that as retreading on already well established ground is rarely a good idea especially when a comparison with a strong piece of work often leave ...

Pure refined 80s action

Stallone has still got it. This movie is pure 80s action, refined into a carefully manufactured hit. This movie ticks all the boxes. Big explosions, fantastic set piece action scenes, boss fights and one hell of a final action scene. It should come as no surprise to anybody that Stallone ...

Well paced action movie that treads on old ground

The Damon/Greengrass collaboration again does not fail to impress. This movie is however far from the strong Bourne movies. It tells a somewhat predictable kind of real life story of the US invasion of Iraq and involves Damon's character attempting to unlock the conspiracy behind the fabricated reason for the ...

A Twist So Predictable it isn't a twist

I don't want to give away anything, but I have probably said too much already. However the moment you start watching the film I doubt you would be all that surprised anyway. This movie does well establishing a creepy, ominous mood, and the main character played by Leonardo DiCaprio is ...

Both Hyperkinetic and Bland

The visual style of this movie is superb. If that were honestly, truly enough, then this film would be excellent - but a film needs more. Now I am not one to insist upon things like "plot" and "character development" in all films, and on the surface it might seem ...

Dark and Poignant

This movie is the story of a sad obsessed loser. However, rather than it be a story of redemption, or of a character worthy of sympathy, it is something else. Conceptually the movie is intriguing; a sports fan upon meeting his sporting idol finds himself getting beaten up by the ...

A Superbly Crafted Masterpiece

There are many films made that I look at and say to myself, "I could have written a better movie than that!" - this is by no means that kind of movie. Inception is a magnificently crafted film, one that shows the talent of the filmmakers is far superior to ...

Boring and Uninspired

There are plenty of times when I look at a film, and wonder why the film was even made in the first place. That isn't to say that every movie must serve an important cosmic service to the universe, but at the same time, I can't help but wonder, if ...

An Unnecessary Waste of Everyone's Time

Recently I have been getting into The X-Files TV show on DVD and so the seemingly random release of a new X-Files movie seemed perfectly primed for me. Unfortunately, like a bad Star Trek movie, this movie ended up being like a long episode with nothing feature film about it ...

An Amazingly Mature Comic Book Movie

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard a thing or two about the new Batman movie, so there really isn’t anything new I can say about it. I liked it, it is a very good film. It is an amazingly mature comic book movie and is truly ...

A whole pile of crazy stupid

I wasn’t expecting much, but Wanted was one of the dumbest movies I’ve seen. I was expecting mindless action, but I didn’t fathom how vapid it could be. The action sequences while not dull, are not good enough to compensate. This is definitely a WTF kind of movie.

The Best part is it's Will Smith-ness

I am a big Will Smith fan, so I would turn out for anything he’s starring in. I came into “Hancock” with high hopes, but ones tempered a little by some poor reviews I had heard about, but tried to avoid. After coming out of the movie, I could understand ...

This movie is so wrong, and so right

The rapid fire jokes hit like a shotgun, some hit the target and others miss by a longshot. The movie scored constant laughs, but there were plenty of jokes that just completely fell flat. However, it is relentless in it’s attempt at the funny so while it misses a lot, ...

A Decent Movie

21 is the story of some M.I.T math geeks who learn a system to count cards and win big in blackjack and go to Las Vegas to make lots of money, get greedy, lose it all and learn a lot about themselves in the process.I found the movie dubious from ...

Doesn't come close to the other Mummy movies

I knew I was expecting too much from the very beginning. In many ways it was doomed from the start, Stephen Somers wasn’t directing, Rachel Weisz was out, and Arnold Vosloo wasn’t the mummy – hell they weren’t even going to be in Egypt any more. Seems like the general ...
