The Dark Knight Rises » So what did everybody think? **Beware of Spoilers**

@PhilESkyline said:

@jasonefmonk: I've been seeing that word "Jiggle" in many forums maybe I missed it during the movie, can you explain what that mean?

It took me a second to parse it. I assume it's when someone takes Joseph Gordon-Levitt's initials, JGL, and tries to pronounce them like an acronym then turn that pronunciation into a word. It has about as much merit as "lawl".

The Dark Knight Rises » So what did everybody think? **Beware of Spoilers**

Jesus christ, Jiggle? Really? Fuck that.

I thought the performances were great all around, surprised by Hathaway and while predictable I still enjoyed dialogue from Caine. I really liked seeing Gordon-Levitt enter the cave. Robin being a shitty character in previous films and TV shouldn't have anything to do with this. John Blake was a great character and was more poised to take up the Batman uniform than become the Robin we are familiar with. It was explained clearly how Batman was a symbol and anyone could take up the cowl.

I'm still unsure how I feel about Wayne living. I expected his death and while a little disappointed, I'm very happy for Alfred's sake. If they had set up Caine's little vacation tea spot earlier in the trilogy maybe it wouldn't have felt so forced.

Nolan managed to take some of the best from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight and put them in one impressive package.

The Dark Knight Rises » Did Ledger's Death Change The Dark Knight Story?

I think he would have had his moment. Let out of Black Gate like the rest of the criminals and caused a roadblock for Batman. I can easily see Joker prancing through the chaos that Gotham became and having the time of his life.

@TheFaithfullyDeparted: (Sorry for the late reply! I must have missed the alert in my inbox.)

I really enjoyed all the Black Widow stuff throughout, but I will agree that Loki vs. Hulk was shallow. I didn't mind so much because we've seen him fight, and that's just not his strong suit. He's a manipulator and the army he brought to earth was huge threat even with him out of commission.

@jasonefmonk: In the lab you see the staff pulsate so I assume it is giving off negative vibes. Which goes along with Loki's willingness to be captured.

Actually I believe that the glow of the staff was to indicate it gave off a traceable signal. It's why Loki allowed himself to be imprisoned, so he could be the tracking device to lead his men to the enemy base. They show the staff on a display in the baddies ship.

@Suedehead: With that six-picture deal, one of the inevitable Hulk cameo's should be in Thor 2. The Hulk IN SPAAAAAACE.

@Ghost_of_GhostDad: Interesting, I don't remember the staff making contact with Banner though*. I thought it was being pissed at SHIELD which Natasha Romanoff is a high ranking member of, and the pain of getting knocked around. Your description of his degrees of control sounds closer to how The Incredible Hulk handled it: Banner jumping from the plane and hoping to aim his beast because he couldn't completely control it. @Suedehead: has it right, I'd almost forgotten, Banner learned control post-credits of the previous film.

*Edit: I remember him picking it up briefly, without really realizing what he was doing. I thought Loki had to wield it and press the blade to a body to have mind control. There could have been more to that moment, however.

@ashogo: I think that the implication of "That's my secret, I'm always angry." is that he may have been in control when attacking Black Widow. Otherwise bringing him to rage "against his will" might cloud Hulk's judgement more than a willful transformation.

I can't believe Shwarma was revealed to be the the next villain after the credits. Shwarma is great but I am more of a Gyro guy.

Haha, that moment hit me good. I lived in Ottawa for two years until just this month, and with such a big Lebanese population shawarma was always on my menu.

@jasonefmonk: Oof, I REALLY hope that Marvel movies don't go trying to emulate empty popcorn trash like Cloverfield. It's a fun roller coaster ride, but it's a totally empty experience. If The Avengers proved anything, it's that characters have to come first.

Oh come on. Cloverfield spent the first twenty minutes building a simple little set of relationships that had impact on the events of the rest of the film. It wasn't much of a character piece I'll agree, but to reiterate, it was everything that film needed. The Avengers had more character depth because it needs more; we can't love demi-gods and iron men if they can't be brought down to our level. We can understand the loss of loved-ones in Cloverfield easily.

None of these will knock Shawshank Redemption off my shelf, but I love them for what they are.

What I would love to see is more akin to a horror movie.

That's a great way to go with it, but I didn't enjoy Ang Lee's version of that as @litrock did. Hulk suffered from CGI not being as advanced it needed, but the pacing was my biggest issue. Horror-Hulk is definitely something I'd like to see tried again. Cloverfield did it right: tension.

I'd also like to note how much better Whedon did with Black Widow. Scarlett Johansson was the worst part of Iron Man 2, and here I am now, a fan of the character.

@gangly: Is it really that hard to get? I'd like to know what you thought was missing. If it's a dark dramatic tale or a romance for the ages you are looking in the wrong place. It capitalized on everything that was set up in the previous Marvel produced films.

@litrock: Ruffalo was signed for six picture deal within the last week, so get used to him haha. I think he was a great balance of humanity and beast, and would like to see more. I actually think we will have trouble with any of these characters as they go on to separate films. The Avengers was more than the sum of it's individual characters to me.

Fucking everything, everything was perfect. Whedon handles an ensemble cast like a mad-genius. The Hulk as he always should have been! – and I really enjoyed The Incredible Hulk. Gave me what I felt I missed from Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, while making those movies better by their extension to this beast. The scene at the very end of the movie got a good-natured "Fuck you, Joss Whedon." from someone in my screening.

So since I haven't read many of these comics, who was the villain after the fancy macro-credits?

Also "Tiny god." was the best Hulk moment ever.

Am I the only one who loved Matchstick Men?

I'd imagine most people just haven't seen it, but to be honest, of all these movies that I've seen, none of them even compare to how good Alien is.

Alien was fucking incredible. I only just saw it for the first time a few months ago. I threw my vote for Matchstick because because nobody seems to know about this movie! "One, two, three."
