1. Black Swan
Pure art. Also, my personal best director of the year Darren Aronokfsy meets best actress of the year Natalie Portman. End of discussion :) |
2. Inception
I really thought this would definitely be my movie of the year... but then "The Black Swan" came out. |
3. Splice
My guilt pleasure of the year. Vincenzo Natali keeps doing amazing sci-fi flicks that still retain the true independent spirit of originality. |
4. The Fighter
Christian Bale kinda manages to steal the show on a film which had the best cast ensemble of the year -- and that alone says a lot. This is an actor's movie supported by a really good script, which makes this an engaging flick from start to finish. |
5. Toy Story 3
I laughed, I cried, I felt like a little kid again. No one does western animated films quite like Pixar! |
6. 127 Hours
James Franco in a one-man show, skillfully directed by Danny Boyle. I felt like I could actually spend 127 hours watching this movie and still I wouldn't get bored. |
7. The King's Speech
Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are superb in this British Royal drama. The dialogue lines are amazing even just on their own, but these two alongside Helena Bonham Carter made them shine even brighter. |
8. True Grit
The Coen Brothers at their best (again). Jeff Bridges is probably the coolest actor alive and Hailee Steinfeld is also downright brilliant in her role. I'm not a fan of westerns, but this was a top-notch movie. |
9. The Town
Ben Affleck directed and co-wrote one of this year's best surprises. Wait, what? Yeah... you heard it, Ben Affleck -- apparently the man is capable of greatness. Also, Jeremy Renner is outsanding in his role. |
10. Winter’s Bone
The one true best (really) independent movie of the year! I love the performances, especially those from Jennifer Lawrence and the brilliant John Hawkes, and the slow pace of the script is just perfect for what the movie is successfully aiming at. |
Hehe, Splice really is an amazing film, I actually went to see twice in the movies ;)
And thank you for the list recommendation, by they way! :)
