The Dr. Who girl companions are never really that well-developed; sure they have plenty of relationship drama, but we never learn anything about their hobbies, talents, favorite foods, inspirations, aspirations, or anything like that.So I don't think it matters much when they trade one pretty face for another.

The idea of watching ignorant teenagers mess up other peoples' lives with unearned powers sounds like a terrible way to spend two good hours, but if Alex gives the movie 4 stars then I guess I'll give it a chance if it makes its way to Netflix Instant.

The targeted characters seem far too much like "strawmen": exaggerations of real-life counterparts that are easier to mock but don't reflect the true situation (most reality TV personas are just actors playing a part, like in any other show).

They could have come up with a better name for the island than "The Mysterious Island". Also, showing the island get destroyed in the trailer kind of ruins the ending, doesn't it?

This story reminds me of Cube: mysterious organization spends trillions to terrorize a few strangers for no real reason. They even have the unexplained, extremely advanced technology put to no greater use than to make people scream and run away.

I'm someone who gets bored with even AAA movies if they're too predictable/formulaic, so this movie's ridiculousness was actually a huge plus for me since I just kept being surprised by the next level craziness that occurred. But it wasn't just absurdity for the sake of absurdity, the events play by the rules established early on in the movie so they always feel reasonable for the plot.I highly recommend it.

I can't believe so many people are talking about seeing it after ranting about the film for more than a decade.Imagine if Firefly was brought back and then all the fans immediately decided it wasn't that interesting anymore.
