The "Batman Forever" of the Die Hard Franchise.: If you are going into Die Hard 5 with anything less then absurd admiration for the character of John McClane, you are going for the wrong reason.A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth entry into the long standing Die Hard franchise finds our hero, John McClane, seeking out his estranged son, whom apparently has been doing some shady business over in Russia. The opening moments are probably the best, ...

The Perfect Conclusion to The Perfect Batman Story: Let's easily get this out of the way, I'm one of the world's biggest Batman fans, there's no denying it. When I heard that Warner Brothers and DC were finally giving us the seminal Batman story, Frank Miller's wondrous magnum opus to everything caped crusader, The Dark Knight Returns, I was immediately stunned. The Dark Knight Returns, for years, has been called "the unfilmable movie". While, the smartest decision that ...

MasterPr0phet created the list Top Ten Films of 2012 with 10 items.
Well it is that time of year again I suppose. While Les Miserables was the only film on my short list that I didn't get a chance to see before writing this, I am confident in saying that movie is probably pretty damn good. But putting that aside, everything else I wanted to see has been watched so I feel it is more then the right time to unleash my ...

How Jennifer Lawrence stole my heart.: Maybe it's the fact that as a dude who loves action, comedies, and insane horror films, I don't watch a lot of romantic comedies. I mean again, come on, I'm a dude, so why would I? But the more and more I heard about Silver Linings Playbook, the more I wanted to sit down and watch it. And I'm glad that I took the dive in, especially after being so ...

Starting 2013 off with a bang. : Is Gangster Squad stylish, dumb fun? Yes, but I loved every minute of it. This is the kind of film that you check your brain at the door and just sit down and enjoy. Are there things you'll question? Sure. I mean for starters, I think we can all agree that Nick Nolte should probably call it a day at this point. I can barely understand what he says half ...

Hollywood Cash In. : Bros, remember when Liam Neeson played retired CIA agent Bryan Mills and kicked ass in Taken? Remember how fantastic that movie was? Guess what? There's a sequel! And guess what, it totally sucks.Let me start off by saying, I have the biggest suspension of disbelief anyone could possibly have when watching just about any movie. I mean hell, I went along with the crazy plot twist in Resident Evil Retribution, ...

Most Overrated Film of 2012. : And I thought "The Hurt Locker" was the most overrated film of the last ten years. Sure, there's a good story in Zero Dark Thirty, I mean it's about taking down Osama Bin Laden, so I, like everyone else in this country, want to see that story pan out. The problem is, Kathryn Bigelow decides to tell the entire story, from the important points, to the parts that we could ...

Too Depressing and Not Enough Meaning.: Flight will probably go down as another Denzel Washington performance, good, but not great. The main problem that mars just about every moment of Flight is simple, too much time is spent on a character suffering from alcoholism and not enough time is spent on the post effect of him overcoming this. In fact, up until the last ten minutes saved this movie, I was ready to take a gigantic dump ...

While many will be thinking about the triumphs of modern cinema in 2012, namely critical and commercial successes like The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers, many will forget that there were also a lot of bad films in 2012. I mean, I'm gonna level with you all here, there was some straight up shit films in 2012. Two in particular that were so awful I had to resort to ...

More balanced Tarantino then his previous outings. : Django Unchained sees Quentin Tarantino return in fine form, even with a few hiccups along the way. While Inglorious Basterds wasn't my favorite Tarantino film, hell, parts of that film are some of the driest I've had to experience in modern cinema, it was a decent Tarantino film. Django returns everything I've loved and enjoyed out of Tarantino, smart and witty characters, over-the-top violence, and an absurdly stylized music choice, that's ...

The best overlooked movie of 2012. : Killing Them Softly has enough political undertones to piss off any liberal, and that was a ok with me. Taking place around the elections of 2008, there are many hidden messages throughout the film that deal with that election, and yeah, any liberal won't walk out of this movie liking Brad Pitt's character, and that's ok. Putting all of that aside, Killing Them Softly is a fantastic mobster romp, but ...

This is 40, or the ballad of how Judd Apatow's Kids Can't Act.: Is this a necessary sequel? Not really. But then again, how many sequels can you say are necessary these days? I have to say this feels even more questionable as, well I remember Knocked Up being a pretty big hit, was it these two characters that made that movie? I guess I am in the category of people who didn't think so. And anyone looking for Seth Rogan or Katherine ...

V/H/S is a good movie because it brought something original to the horror genre this year. In a genre that's basically filled with remakes and terrible, direct-to-video quality b-movies, I was excited to see something take the concept of Paranormal Activity and push it one step further. Does everything work in V/H/S? No. But they took a risk and at the end of the day I feel it paid off. ...

MasterPr0phet reviewed Dredd.

Hyper Violent Surprise: Make no misconceptions about it, Dredd shouldn't work. On paper, reviving a film that was kind of bad from 1995 seems like a poor concept. That's probably why Dredd surprises me so much, because in fact it is a complete 180 from what I thought it would be: it's damn fantastic.Stylistic and hyper violent are the two words that come to mind. Well, I guess I should say ultra hyper ...

MasterPr0phet reviewed Ted.

Skip this, watch Family Guy.: At its core, "Ted" isn't even as funny as the weakest episode of Family Guy. Hard to believe a live action movie involving Mark Wahlberg and a talking, drinking, and pot smoking Teddy Bear wouldn't be that funny? I just expected a little bit more from Seth Macfarlane then the typical fart and penis jokes, but that's all Ted boils down to, except, 99.9% of these jokes have been done ...

Daniel Day-Lewis, National Treasure.: If you haven't guessed by now, Daniel Day-Lewis is pretty much the definition of a true actor. He picks his roles at his discretion, and spends months getting prepared for a role. He is the definition of a "method actor", and he's given some of the best performances of anyone's career, perhaps any career at all, over the years. I didn't think he could top 2007's "There Will Be Blood", ...

Bond. Resurrected.: When Craig took over as Bond in 2006, he redeemed one of the worst Bond films ever to hit this long standing franchise, Die Another Day . By rebooting everything Bond, things were set in motion to completely overhaul and revamp the then 40 year old (now 50 year old) franchise. Daniel Craig made quite a damn impression as Bond, the first blonde bond, and he successful brought Bond back ...

The smartest thing Disney could do with Star Wars Episode 7 is to set it many years after the events of Return of the Jedi. Mention those characters, hell maybe have C-3PO and R2-D2 around, but that's it. I don't want to see the memories I cherish from my childhood viewings of these classic films completely ruined by casting new actors in those roles. Instead, focus on something further down ...

@cmpLtNOOb: Oh I fully agree that the "main plot" was the weakest part of this entire anthology, and really they could have just shown stories and it would have made more sense. However I think too much was done so correctly here, hence the five stars.

Chernobyl Garbage. : File this one under mistake. Chernobyl Diaries is the newest "scarefest" (and I use the term loosely) from Mr. Paranormal Activity, Orin Peli, who won audiences over back in 2009 with that fantastic horror classic. Flash forward to 2012, and we are already three, now four deep into Paranormal Activity, and well, wouldn't you know but Mr. Peli wants to branch out a bit. Too bad he branches out into ...
