Minimal music, Maximum mood
These films capitalize on ominous tones, dreadful drones and just flat out moody scores that make the film as powerful as its other elements.
1. There Will Be Blood

Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead ups the "ominous violin swell" ante matching the Depression Era setting.

2. The Dark Knight

Another great use of monotone orchestra score to accompany the insanity of the Joker and its tension of morality.

3. No Country for Old Men

No score whatsoever until the credits. Makes the desert that much lonelier.

4. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Score used in the beginning and ends of the film, but the part over the credits makes this film just that brutal.

5. Last Life in the Universe

Vibraphones and mellow tones litter this dreamy Thai film. The score accompanies that sweltering humidity and lucid reality.
