The Big Bang Theory » The Big Bang Theory Fan thread!

Haha thanks :) but being a new mum does not change my complete bitchness ;) Watching BBT tonight I did notice its lost a lot of the charm it started with. I can see why people are not fans, but I still enjoy the stupidity. To be honest whoever put Community up against BBT must have been suffering a blow to the head. Either that or they planned on it failing.

@not_a_bumblebee: Awww Bee I got no worries about people venting :) was just sad that the person who bumped such an ancient thread would feel that way... Wait.... What happened with BBT and Community??? I'm way out of the loop after having the baby!!!

The Big Bang Theory » The Big Bang Theory Fan thread!

@Claude: Your very right. It was bumped by a fan and then dumped on by non fans ;) I'm not around enough to care, but feel for people who want to use it for what it was intended.

Screened is very Giant Bomb dominated so your sure to see a similar trend here. I'm from Comic Vine originally and we are a lot more chilled :P

I'll be honest I gave Big Bang Theory several chances and it feels phony and manufactured. The nerd stuff feels like a gimmick to try to tap into the geek culture which has made what were once nerdy obsessions like video games, science fiction, and comic books into something that is mainstream and profitable. Some Executive at CBS realized that us "nerds" have disposable incomes, weren't the basement dwelling creepy minority we were usually depicted as, and also watch TV.

This is exactly my problem with the show. It feels like it was devised and written by a bunch of studio suits who were like "so, this is what nerds are like, right? Pretty much just Star Wars and Xbox. We'll throw in a Schrodinger's Cat joke to make it seem smart" and the general (ignorant) public is like "yeah! Totally! Those silly nerds!" The popularity of the show is baffling to me, although at the same time it isn't at all. And for some reason Jim Parsons is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Not to shit all over a show in its own fan thread, but... Yeah I'm not a fan.

This show wasn't made for geeks or nerds it was made for the masses. My wife and I love this show. My older brother, who doesn't even own a computer, loves this show. My dad who is 74 watches this show.

I look at it as junk food for the people that like junk food tv. I happen to like this style of situation comedy, so does 15 million other people from week to week.

It used to be a lot less main stream, I prefer the original series where they dropped comments without any explanation. It's a great fun show, calling it junk food is actually an excellent way to describe it!

I'm still quite taken aback at how a fan thread I made has turned into a hate on it thread. How can people be so wound up about a T.V show? Then again.. this is Screened.

@ThePickle: sorry I can't @ reply on my phone. I agree it's not loved by everyone and yes it was a sweeping statement. I used it to incorporate aspects of the show that I knew people interested in those areas would enjoy. I was not meaning to imply EVERYONE who was keen on said areas would also love the show. I can see why it would appear that way and stand corrected. There obviously is a large hate base for it, but it has a ton of fans too. It's a silly bit of fun that nods to the geek in me :) I made this thread as a fan thread, not a "do you like BBT" thread. Its Sad to see its become a joke of a show and that people on here can't just allow a fan thread without needing to put it down.

I'm sorry if your thread got derailed. The only reason I stepped in is because I was so stunned by how ridiculous that comment. Ignoring the improper grammar (do people seriously not get the difference between "your" and "you're" yet?) it just seemed like an outright untrue statement.

*sigh* did you really need to attack my grammar? I could give you a rather long history about my childhood education to explain why I have trouble with it but I am more stunned that you felt the need to dip that low.

No need to apologise. It's done.

I love The Big Bang Theory. I originally thought this was a show lots of people on this site would love but I guess I'm one of the few truly love it. It is in no way the best sitcom ever made but it is much better than most of the comedies on TV right now with the exception of 30 Rock and the returning Community. Sorry to those haters but this show does rock and some of us don't find it insulting.

:) well said

If your a geek, Nerd, Comic Fan, Film Fan, Science fan or anything you will love this series!

That seems like quite a leap and most people here would say it's not true.

Why's that? Saying its quite a leap is a rather big way to pour cold water on a fairly casual comment... its a very sweet series. If you hate it fine, but every one of my rather large friend base adores it and every one of them are one of the types listed, so my comment stands fairly substantiated.

People on here not liking it is fine, got no problem with that. What I got a problem with is people who can't allow others to enjoy their choices.

General Discussion » Have you ever been to a movie where the audience was mocking it?

Inception was mocked by a big group of teens who kept asking what was going on and getting bored.

Paranormal Activity 2 was mocked by a young couple sitting near my (6ft) husband and his (7ft) mate, but they were quickly silenced when his mate got up and went to sit next to them.

I made a documentary about my left shoe, hit me up if you want to watch it!

As crazy as it sounds, I would probably give it a shot.

As far as Michael Moore goes, Bowling for Columbine won an Oscar and reviewed well. So wether or not you agree with Moore you have to accept that many people think it is a good documentary. Documentarians are not journalists. They dont have the same ethical obligations. Their job is to tell a story and if done well they affect some change. After Target stores were portrayed badly they decided to stop selling hand guns. Documentaries are less journalism than they are the opinion page. People like Michael Moore and George Will, even if all you can say about them is that they are full of shit, serve a purpose.

That's not totally true. Documentaries are supposed to be sharing of the facts of a story... what if we all decided to walk around with a camera filming whatever we felt like and fudging the facts? Can you imagine if David Attenbourgh changed all the names of every bird on an island just to give us a thrill?

EDITED:

Thought about this a bit more and think I understand better what you were saying. Doco's are peoples stories told in different ways .My point was being that people like Moore use the "facts" at hand but stretch them and alter them to suit his purpose, his Doco's are a bout shocking and startling an audience rather than presenting them with a story and allowing people to make their own choice on it. I think it would be unfair of me to say there are no Doco's out there that are not bias or leaning in one way, but Moore is so awful about it it just puts me off. I get that Doco's are stories told through the eyes of those that tell them, so yeah, I do agree with what your saying :)

@Mistress_Redhead: Did you watch Roger & Me? Possible one of the best political documentaries ever made. Michael Moore didn't lose his way until after Bowling for Columbine. I think your problem is with political documentaries in general. As they tend to be skewed in favor of what ever issue the documentarian supports and also attempts to make supporters of the opposing opinion appear inferior.

What the Bleep Do We Know? is pretty bad but I think it is less a documentary then a cult recruitment tool. Also Ben Stein made a pro evolution movie that is suppose to be just plain awful and misinformed. I've also seen more then my fair share of awful documentaries based on the paranormal, aliens, cryptozoology, and conspiracy theories.

I have not seen it, but was told before Columbine he was a lot less into plumping up the truth.

Do you hate Sicko, too? I thought that one was great.

Not a fan of anything he does, I like my documentaries to give me the facts and not fudge it up with a crying baby for emphasis.

I can't bloody wait to see Batman get his arse kicked. That said, I hope that this film deftly evades the error of the first: Don't make Batman the focus of the film! He's a terrible character. I'm always bamboozled by the fact that people actually hold Batman Begins in such high regard.

Are you basing this comment on the comics or the films? because Batman is anything BUT a terrible character in the comics, but his portrayal in the films was lacklustre to say the least, so that I can understand.

Just the film.

Totally agree then.
