Quests » New Quest Set: UnCaged

I can't figure it out... I was gonna be second! Second, damn you, second!

Anyway, I've tried every film on his page, but the only quest I'm missing for the set is Tale of two Cages. I'm missing one movie... fuck.

It's the one listed right after Bangkok Dangerous in the quest list.

EDIT: Never mind. I didn't try Grindhouse. Didn't think they'd actually count that as a Nicholas Cage bomb.

General Discussion » Your most anticipated film for 2011

Red State - Not a huge Kevin Smith fan, but excited to see how this comes out... intrigued, anyway.
Moonrise Kingdom - Know nothing about it, but its Wes Anderson so...
The Goon - Love the comic... also, if Giamatti is still attached then all the better.

Well, I hope not.

How so?

I'm not arguing, I just want to know. I posted this thread because I have no idea when it comes to foreign affairs and the like.

General Discussion » Misogynous Stuff... Talking 'Straw Dogs'

@HandsomeDead said:
" I've never seen Straw Dogs so I can't comment directly but I've never been swayed by the misogyny arguments of movies. If a female character is, like you say here, ogled and bitchy, the world is up in arms but you look at the portrayal of men in these kinds of films and they're usually slimy rapists, meek beyond all reason or ridiculously violent and yet no one claims it to be a misandristic (if that's how it's even spelled) portrayal. Moving tangentially, there's plenty of reasoning behind the idea of poorly written female characters, but then you get movies like Kill Bill or Resident Evil which just flip the gender roles and suddenly everything is OK. "
Great point. Especially in Straw Dogs, you should really watch it, everyone in the film is portrayed as assholes, murderers, rapists or all three.  I generally agree though, most reports of misogyny are unfounded in film.

General Discussion » Misogynous Stuff... Talking 'Straw Dogs'

How about Straw Dogs, huh? I liked it. Quite a bit, actually. The misogyny was a bit off-putting though, wouldn't you say? A bit much?

Perhaps it's a sign of the time it was made, but, even ignoring the sexism in the rape scene (which I find arguable), there was, basically, only one woman in that film and she is either treated like shit or ogled by every man in it, young and old.

It also didn't help that she's portrayed as an increasingly vapid and self-involved bitch over the course of the film. At the beginning, I was actually invested in the relationship between Dustin Hoffman and Susan George, but as it drew closer to the conclusion, I just wanted her gone so that Dustin Hoffman could A) Do Math and/or B) Kick Some Ass.

Either way, Dustin Hoffman was fucking great.

8.5/10

Thoughts? Other Examples of Rampant Sexism in Films?

This. Just... this.

Except, my reasons for hating people are less trivial than non-existent... also, I never really feel fine.
