I've read a fair amount of Kerouac, but not On The Road. He relies a lot on sound and cadence in his writing, and I'm not sure that will translate into the film well, or at all. There are some things about Hitchcock movies that I don't care for, but I still like his movies. Wow! That scene was TOTALLY devoid of tension! I know it's out of context, but you expect that type of scene to be close call after close call. You supposed to think "uh oh, there's no way he's gonna get out of this one", not "uh oh, there's no way he's gonna get out of this one, oh wait he's just going to jump up in the air really high."

It's not feature length, but A Trip to the Moon is probably an important movie. Maybe Battleship Potemkin too. Also, I haven't seen The Artist, but if you're doing silent films at all that might be more engaging than Keaton/Chaplin stuff, assuming it comes out on DVD any time soon.Overall you can't go wrong with Kubrick, Hitchcock, or Kurosawa. The weight that any "spoilers" seem to carry is often really fucking dumb. I remember seeing "spoiler" tags everywhere when all that Dark Knight Rises stuff was being revealed. If seeing Bane's costume before you're sitting in a theater "spoils" that movie for you then you need to seriously reevaluate your life.People tend to overreact when they feel something has been "spoiled" for them.
