TV I Grew Up Watching

From the days of 7 channels (VHF and UHF), through the early days of cable, and into modern times, I have watched a ton of television. Be it syndicated or first-run episodes, these are the shows are grew up watching in no particular order.

This is a work in progress. Much more to come.

1. The Dukes of Hazzard

I even watched the season with Coy and Vance. Embarrassingly, I also admit that I watched the short-lived spin-off Enos.

2. The Brady Bunch

Sherwood, you had me at, "Mom always said don't play ball in the house."

3. I Dream of Jeannie

Be it black and white or technicolor, I couldn't get enough of this show. The Theme Song is forever stuck in my head.

4. The Rifleman

My dad loves everything Western, guess that rubbed off on me.

5. G.I. Joe

Knowing is half the battle.

6. The Transformers

More than meets the eye. The 1-2 punch of Transformers and G.I. Joe was a serious 1-2 after school punch growing up.

7. Soap

These are the Tates; these are the Campbells. Early Billy Crystal, alien abduction, what more could you ask for?

8. Dallas

Who shot J.R.?

9. Knight Rider

Super-pursuit mode!

10. Battlestar Galactica
11. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century

Guest stars galore. Erin Grey. Pamela Hensley. Gil Gerard as a James Bond type for the 25th Century. I really miss this show.

12. Magnum, P.I.

Gotta love Higgin's and Magnum's breaking of the fourth wall. Catchy theme song as well - gotta love Mike Post.

13. Simon & Simon

Tim Reid as Downtown Brown.

14. Cheers

"It's a dog eat dog world, and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear."

15. All in the Family

Meathead!

16. Gilligan's Island

"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale. . ."

17. Too Close for Comfort
18. The Price Is Right

Remember when cars cost only four figures?

19. Press Your Luck

"Big bucks. No Whammy. Stop!"

20. M*A*S*H
21. St. Elsewhere

Two small (Mark Harmon, Howie Mandell) and one big screen (Denzel Washington) star all on the same show.

22. Newhart

"I'm Larry. This is my brother Darryl, and my other brother Darryl."

23. Family Ties
24. Moonlighting
25. Remington Steele

Brosnan. Nothing more needs to be said - except to mention Mike Post did this theme song too.

26. Hart to Hart
27. Matt Houston
28. Vega$
29. Hunter

Fred Dryer was a better cop than football player (L.A. Rams). Mike Post did the theme song here as well.

30. The Facts of Life

From Edna's Edibles to Over Our Heads, from Charlotte Rae to Cloris Leachman, you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the Facts of Life.

31. Silver Spoons

The Ricker, Bateman, Ribeiro, and Erin Grey.

32. The Odd Couple

Felix and Oscar. Klugman and Randall. Great comedy duo.

33. My Three Sons

Catchy theme song. . .

34. Leave It to Beaver

Gosh, Wally, this was a good show.

35. The Love Boat

Guest stars every week and yet another theme song that you just can't get out of your head. Alas, Ted McGinley helped turn the Pacific Princess into the Titanic.

36. Fantasy Island

"The plane! The plane! The plane"

37. The A-Team

"I love it when a plan comes together." Did I mention that Mike Post did this theme song as well?

38. The Rockford Files

Loved the Trans Am. Ditto for the Mike Post theme song (Grammy Winner).

39. Good Times

"Dy-no-mite!" Loved the addition of Janet Jackson to the cast.

40. Diff'rent Strokes

"Whatchu talkin' about Willis?" Favorite episode has to be the one with Muhammad Ali.

41. Star Trek

I never want to be a member of the Security team.

42. Three's Company

I liked this one so much that I actually gave The Ropers and Three's A Crowd a shot.

43. Doogie Howser, M.D.

NPH. Computer journal with life lessons. Mike Post theme song.

44. Hill Street Blues

Again, no rhyme or reason to order. James B. Sikking was Doogie's dad. Before that, he headed up the swat team as Lt. Hunter in Hill Street Blues. Oh yeah, Mike Post theme song (Another Grammy winner).

45. CHiPs

Speaking of cops, can't forget CHIPs. Ponch and John and a Mike Post theme song.

46. The Greatest American Hero

Loved, loved, loved this show. BTW, Mike Post theme song.

47. Quantum Leap

I loved the portrayal of time travel in this show. Little impacts to alter individuals, not plots of world domination requiring the intervention of JCVD and the TEC. Oh yeah, Mike Post did this theme song too.

48. WKRP in Cincinnati

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

49. Knots Landing

I blame my mom for this one. . .

50. Trapper John, M.D.
