General Discussion » Would you rather watch a happy movie with a sad ending or a sad movie with a happy ending?

This is a tough one.

I'm reminded of movies like Tim Roth's The War Zone which are depressing and plodding but ultimately just destroy you. I hear this is the same with We Have To Talk About Kevin, but I've yet to watch it. Moon is also another example that springs to mind. I think I would rather just feel something and be able to connect with the characters regardless. This is why films like the end of Inception bring me to tears.

Cars 2 » Cars 2 reviews are out

I think these reviews are alittle unfair. I saw this with my 3 year old and my wife at a matinee yesterday and I thought it was good. Much better than the first movie. Its got all of the same trappings that a spy movie like James bond does (gadgets, evil do-ers trying to scheme for personal gain, and camp out the ass). I love love love me some cheesy ass james bond, and I thought that this, even though dumbed down for the kids, was a good offering and an intro to a different genre of movies for kids.

This might not be the best Pixar franchise film, but if you consider how bad Cars 1 was this is a vast improvement.

The Walking Dead » The Walking Dead Episode 3 Discussion Topic (Spoilers)

Haven't seen the 3rd episode so if he is dead oh well, but I'll give 2:1 odds that Carl kill's Dixon and Shane lives on with the group. At least for now.

@nickstixx: If it goes according to the comic you wont see them for a long time. One of the reasons I didn't like how much time they invested in those two. They are fairly significant in the comics story around issues 65-70. Again according to the comic the story does bring something up in a fleeting moment and doesn't revisit it for a LONG time. We still don't know who Michonne is talking to as example.  Don't expect Rick and Co to be returning to Kentucky any time soon.

@ organicalistic_ : Then you probably aren't going to like this much. The majority of the "action" happens between the people, not the zombies. They motivate the actions and are ever present but rarely are the source of frustration for the group. That role would be filled by humans being selfish and unreasonable when the rubber meets the road.

The Walking Dead » Any disapointed? (spoilers)

I'm a pretty avid fan of the walking dead and can’t really help but dislike this show so far.  I know that liberties have to be taken with the source material otherwise anyone could just read ahead, but the liberties that are taken just seem like filler and very disjointed. Having a group of several people in the city only goes to further a reason to stay there and not get Rick back to the camp. This took maybe a page or two in the comic, but a whole episode of the show. Another point of contention is the zombies themselves. First what the F is up with these semi fast zombies. A brisk trot is something no one should ever witness a zombie do. The worst of it is a zombie using tools like rocks or bricks to break into the building. Ridiculous!. Heaven help us if they are trying to give these zombies some cognitive reasoning. Why not just make a friendly talking zombie side kick. It’s really laughable.  It also seems filled with contrivances and egregiously obvious foreshadowing. Who didn't see that racist's fate being placed in the hands of the focus his bigotry, and that the only thing that they left behind was a bucket of tools, including hacksaw, that Dixon could reach to try and get himself free? I mean how stupid does the writer of this show think it’s viewers are? Who honestly doesn't see him freeing himself and heading towards the camp? I'd guess that he finds his way back to the camp and Carl ends up shooting him instead of Shane to “save his dad”.

The option is there to change up the story and still keep the pacing and impact intact, but as it stands now the product just isn’t indicative of Kirkman/Darabont .   It’s no Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, but I'm still disappointing.

General Discussion » Have you ever not gotten a movie?

So lots of movie's get hyped and reviewed about the same, but has there ever been a movie that is accepted to be a "great movie" that you just didn't get?
For me it's Kill Bill. I've watched it a few times and just don't see where everyone is going crazy for this movie. Its really in my opinion just not good and honestly pretty boring. I like Quentin's movies and his style, but I just couldn't see what everyone else saw. I know this is very subjective as movies generally are, but does anyone else have this happen to them?

Hidden Gems » In the Mouth of Madness

Playing Alan Wake really makes me think of this movie. Its just such a mashup of stephen king's works with a dash of HP lovecraft and a bit of david lynch craziness. I dont think anyhting but king was an influence, but alan wake took some nods from this.

I don't wanna hear about your break room sexual escapades. I'm talking what have you gotten up to that you wouldn't want the boss to know about. Past or Present. Your screened.com family will keep your secret safe.

While working at a block buster nearly 15 years ago I would hide chicken nuggets in the top boxes. Block buster never used the very top shelf and would use an empty VHS box with a logo printed on it. I'd grab these and place em up there or mix them in the movies in the middle to get the funk spread around the place. They all got found...... eventually.

A friend of mine also worked at Staples and used to stock the top shelves with paper, large printers and so on. Well in stacking the top stock they would make little hidey-holes all through the place. At one point in time they had a mat, a pillow, a crate they used as a table and an alarm clock. They would sneak off and hide up there and sleep just to get out of work.

@Balls: I mean its better than leaving a bunch of cling-ons in your underwear. Its also better than not wiping enough. Do your mom a favor and please continue to wipe your ass properly. Shaved or not.

@Balls: You should probably do some manscaping and clear the valley if there are that many TP leavings.
