Wow, I've never heard of this "cristero wars". I was too busy learning about the roaring twenties on the United States. I guess this is a bit of history that isn't really told outside of Latin cultures. All the more reason that it should be made in English, just so more non-Spanish speaking people will be aware of it. Stories of governments that press oppressive or narrow-minded laws on people ...

The hype about the movie got me to read the book ("A Princess of Mars"), which is an awesome gem of 20th century genre writing. Seriously, the book is masterfully paced. I still haven't gotten around to seeing the movie but I'm definitely going to read the next two books in the series.

Super science in the basement! I'm getting a very Buffy season 4 vibe from this trailer. The Initiative, Adam and the whole super advanced government programs were probably the weakest ideas in the show. Of course as far as villains go evil corporations or evil government programs are the new Nazis and Joss has certainly tapped that wheelhouse before... so my enthusiasm for this movie is tepid at best.

I would say that Cloverfield fits better into the "Giant Monster Movie" category than into the "Found Footage Movie" category. For both genres it breaks a lot of types rules thanks to its budget.A lot can be said about how the national disaster of Hiroshima birthed Japan's obsession with Godzilla type movies, and perhaps Abrams was trying to translate America's panic of the 9/11 disaster into a tangible monster of ...

I'm going to sit on my recliner with a bottle of whiskey and read some Jack London stories until this thing comes out to satisfy my "man versus nature" story needs.

Reminds me of Sky Captain but actually aware that it's ridiculous. I liked Sky Captain, despite its earnestness, for its retro aesthetic; but this movie looks like the action-filled self-aware tribute to old B-movie Sci-Fi that I wanted Sky Captain to be. I'll definitely give this a watch. I'm not flying out to Berlin for the premiere though, so when do you think this will hit Netflix instant watch?

I just don't think the fantasy elements and the real world crime elements would mesh well with American audiences. You can have a mystical book that kills people when you put their name in it, but you sure as hell don't have an apple loving demon making appearances in your western story. Demons just don't make that many appearances in western storytelling outside of comic book adaptations and even then ...

The book The Prestige written by Christopher Priest is fantastic. It's a much larger scope story involving the grandchildren of the two magicians. If you liked the movie then it's definitely worth reading the source material.

@mattman734 said:I think its actually pretty easy to visualize how bad it would be to have a condition where you cant stop thinking about it and doing it, after the first couple days (or hours) there would be no pleasure in it at all, it would just be painful and you would feel depressed and anxious every second your not doing it. Its a joke for men but truly think ...

This is obviously an adaptation of one of Jack London's lesser known works.

Pitch Black was a sci-fi horror movie but Chronicles of Riddick turned the character into Conan the Barbarian in space. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it was so different from the original movie that I wasn't quite prepared for that turn. After playing the Escape from Butcher Bay game I can now see the universe of Riddick universe more as an adventure series rather than a horror series, ...

I would have liked specific examples of how Twilight was actually damaging. As it stands your article just seems filled with supposition and a certain amount of disgust that this popular story hasn't taken to heart the second-wave feminist notion of independence over coupling. I personally think Twilight captures the female anxiety over marrying your idealized mate (the notion of marrying up in society, an old Jane Austen notion that ...

Turning the one source of innocence from the last decade, the manic pixie girl, into the source of all terror. Well played Hollywood.
