@ArbitraryWater said:All this would be well and good... if the prequels weren't poorly written, acted or even directed for that matter. Certainly, there is more in those prequel movies than people give George Lucas credit for, but that doesn't change the fact that as pieces of entertainment they mostly fall flat. Except maybe Revenge of the Sith, but that's just because you get to see Hayden Christiansen get his legs ...

Kinda grating for descriptions to include whether Matt Rorie thinks a girl in it is hot or whatever. Not a huge deal, but comes off as a little crass especially when its about nudity being the leading attribute of a potential film.

@cornBREDX said:I'm not sure a film exists that could not be improved by the presence of Denzel Washington . He's one of those actors whose simple existence in a film often elevates it beyond even the most meager expectations. I'd argue that films like Man on Fire, Unstoppable,The Book of Eli , and even Training Day (for which he won an Oscar) would be infinitely inferior films were he not ...

All bad. I love Star Wars enough to watch episode 1 and 3, but this is awful start to finish. Two strikes with Cloverfield and now this. GET IT TOGETHER RORIE.

The Grey, a cross between London and Hemingway. I'm into it.

The movies on his Nice Try list, except for Real Steal, are the closest to his style. Maybe he feels threatened.

psychpunk commented on Rorie's staff review Underworld: Awakening.
@Neverpraying: I kind of like the Underworld movies (except the prequel) and I recognize they're pretty mediocre movies. It's subjective v objective. Rorie's job isn't to approach things with a critical, objective eye to fetter his own subjectivity. If I was to get into that mindset for these flicks, I'd prob give the first two movies in the 2-3 star range as well.

psychpunk commented on Alex's staff review Haywire.
I think the object of this movie is pretty clear: Gina Cararo punches people. It's a movie built for her. Soderbergh kind of says as much if you see him talking about it. If you're expecting anything more than that because of the talent, I'd say you're going to be disappointed. But why would you be expecting more than that?
