1. Alien
The first film that started it all for the greater good. Well at least this film and its sequel. |
2. Aliens
An absolute classic survival horror movie with awesomely stereotypical badass space marines. |
3. The Thing
Possibly my favourite movie involving an alien killing people. Pure class. Pure disgusting vommit inducting class. |
4. A Boy and His Dog
Very unique and funny movie that may just have one of the best endings ever. |
5. Dark City
Nice psychological thriller, just for the love of god watch the directors cut not the theatrical release. |
6. The Terminator
While everyone goes on about the second film, the first is in my mind superior. A dark sci-fi noir movie that has one of the most believable female protagonists ever. |
7. Planet of the Apes
Of course don't ever watch the remake but the Planet of the Apes still holds up as a highly essential film, even though we all know what happens at the end. |
8. Beneath the Planet of the Apes
A highly original and entertaining sequel to the original classic. Like Alien and The Terminator you should probably stop watching the franchise after this one |
9. The Matrix
Maybe a little visually outdated with some of its CG but the film still holds up as an entertaining and stylish film. |
10. Back to the Future
Not only one of the best sci-fi movies ever made, but one of the best movies ever made. |
11. Star Wars
Well I mean of course this is on this list. |
12. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
And of course one of the greatest films ever made followed by... |
13. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
...not as great but still awesome third chapter. |
14. Children of Men
Possibly the best sci-fi of the decade, has some of the best action scenes in a film as well. |
15. The Fifth Element
A very odd but stylish film with some very original design and MULTPASS! |
16. Jurassic Park
While some boil the film down to merely a showcase of special effects the film is dam exiting and still holds up till this day. |
17. RoboCop
Not just a stupid action film, Robocop is more than just a dude in a suite killing people. That scene where the police are shooting at Robocop brings a tear to my eye till this very day. |
18. Twelve Monkeys
Highly fantastical and original movie featuring maybe the best performance by Bruce Willis and an eccentric young Brad Pitt. |
19. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Just about the only Star Trek film that I enjoyed except for... |
20. Star Trek
...the great reboot that was long awaited. |
21. Brazil
Terry Gilliam at his most Gilliamest in this film. A mind warping film that is at times delightfully satirical and at other times wickedly dark. |
22. Primer
Quite possibly the most realistic depiction of time travel ever...I still don't understand what's going on though. |
23. Moon
Fright with science errors and the plot isn't too hard to guess at times but incredibly style and Sam Rockwell's best performance turn this into an instant classic. |
24. Soylent Green
One of the most subtly depressing films ever with a brilliant ending. |
25. Altered States
A crazy film that will keep you going..what the hell. |
26. The Fly
Just about the grossest movie ever...but its so awesome. |
27. Videodrome
Because he pulls a video cassette out of the Vagina that grew on his chest. ALL HAIL THE NEW FLESH! |
28. Event Horizon
Do you see...DO YOU SEE!? |
29. The Abyss
Sometimes a little slow but chock full of atmosphere. Besides can you really argue with one of the best film taglines ever? |
30. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Still a classic and still holds up surprisingly well. |
31. The Day the Earth Stood Still
Please ignore the remake which forgoes some of the more subtle messages that the original contained. Visually dated yes, but its message is still as relevant as ever. |
32. The Man from Earth
A simple premise executed incredibly well. Entertains even though the film boils down to a handful of people talking in a room. |
33. Pitch Black
Anti hero done right. Too bad the follow up tried to take this on a much larger scale. |
34. Serenity
Hang me because I'm not a huge fan of firefly but I still enjoyed this film despite ruining the coolness of the concept of Reavers. |
35. Starship Troopers
Incredibly stupid but still entertaining in a comic book way. |
36. Total Recall
A dumb but entertaining movie. Still wish that they let David Cronenberg direct this one though. |
37. Timecrimes
Cool film that reminds of 12 monkeys |
38. Cloverfield
Much better than the dam Godzilla remake thats for sure. |
39. The Host
Very original take on old monster movies. |
40. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Depressing, confusing and visually astounding. Jim Carey will undoubtedly never top his performance in this film. |
41. Signs
Somewhat quirky but oh so frightening at times. Possibly the best heroic music in a film ever is played at the end. Remember when Mel Gibson was a good actor? |
42. Galaxy Quest
One of Tim Allen's best (and only?) good movies. Hysterically funny with a brilliant cast. |
43. Open Your Eyes
Can't say much about this film except man thats an awesome way to end a film. |
44. Gattaca
Sometimes seems to be a bit up its self but a great and original film none the less. |
45. Predator
The title of the this film reflects exactly what it is. One of the best cat and mouse films ever. |
46. Predator 2
Not quite as good as the original but still enjoyable, this film takes a more comic book approach, besides...Danny Glover. |
47. Blade Runner
Hard to understand sometimes, but confusingly brilliant just the same. |
48. Logan's Run
Great, just great. The brilliance of this film is aided by the activeness of its female lead. |
49. Mad Max
While its sequels don't quit match up in quality the first Mad Max film holds up to this very day as one of the most exciting car chase movies ever. |
50. Escape from New York
Kurt Russell running around with an eye-patch being a total bad ass, what more could you possibly want/ |
Glad to see someone else liked Time Crimes.
