General Discussion » Ok... ask away...

I feel unwilling to give my precious internet time to someone I don't know the real name, gender, or appearance of.

This leads me to believe it is an AI trapped a computer, as that is the only explanation to its lack of any of the above. Rorie must've found this out and then have been killed by a ridiculously large amazon order placed above his head. His tumblr is being written by this same AI.

The Hunger Games » Racist Hunger Games fans

Yeah, it's kinda like the whole Donald for Spiderman stuff. While I get there are other reasons Sony didn't go for Donald Glover, the backlash from some fans was just ridiculous over something really meaningless. It's not like these are characters characterized by their race.

The Legend of Korra » Thoughts on the first two episodes?

@JeanLuc: I knew that he was going to be in the show as Tenzin, so while watching the episode I was wondering if Tenzin was the real Tenzin, or if I was listening to some work in progress version that was pre-a JK simmons recording, then the credits came and it was him all along. In the second episode it's a little easier to tell as he gets into a grumpy mode a bit, but yeah, it's nice to hear some Simmonsian range.

The Legend of Korra » Thoughts on the first two episodes?

@TheFaithfullyDeparted: It's probably going to have less characters than the original show, which would usually split between an Aang A storyline and a Zuko B storyline, but Korra definitely has other characters alongside her.

The Legend of Korra » Thoughts on the first two episodes?

I'm very excited. The worst part of the original show was Aang as a character, who, while usually fine, just rang a little bit too annoying. I like how the characters are mostly older now, and I love the new Feudal Japan/1920s style. Korra seems to be a great main character, and the new world created is very interesting. That being said, I'm not sure as to how long the show will be able to keep its momentum, considering it's only in one location and Korra has but one element to master.

Community » Community Season 3 Episode Discussion Thread

Yeah, some great references in this recent episode. I think I preferred Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts as far as laughs go, but I do like the foreshadowing of Evil Abed. Dan Harmon has said many times that the third season would be the darkest act, and it looks like it may deliver. The only bad part would be if the show doesn't get renewed for a fourth season and we're left with a downer ending.

Also, is the Evil Abed seen at the end of the episode here just an alter ego of Abed, or is it the Evil Abed from the alternate dimension trying to find his way back into the main timeline?

The Legend of Korra » First 2 episodes of Legend of Korra to be "unlocked" on Saturday

Watched the pilot. I'm really excited about the series. The art design and music seem to have taken a definite step up, and the character of Korra looks interesting. I love the 1920s/mystic china cross Republic City has. I'm a bit surprised that JK Simmons as Tenzin isn't incredibly grumpy, but he shows his range rather well. Looking forward to seeing more, especially as more characters are introduced.

The Walking Dead » I hate about 95% of the characters in this show.

Perhaps kind of unrelated, but how do people stand to watch Mad Men? All of the characters, aside from Don Draper, are immensely unlikable. Don Draper's an awful person, but he's intelligent and charming enough to make him interesting to watch. Everyone else just makes me want to kill myself. Despite all the good buzz that show has, I couldn't get past the first half of the first season because I hate everyone.

The Walking Dead » What just happened?

I laughed when samurai girl showed up. I don't know if it was a laugh respecting the ludicrousness, or a laugh in spite of it. Regardless, it didn't really fit with the tone of the show.

I quite liked the season finale, but Lori needs die. So bad.

The Walking Dead » I hate about 95% of the characters in this show.

Yeah, most of the characters are pretty awful on the Walking Dead. Lori, especially, is probably the most unlikable female lead I've ever seen on a show. That being said, Daryl, Rick, and to a lesser extent Herschel, Maggy and Glenn are good enough characters to keep me watching, especially considering it's one of the few TV shows that can genuinely surprise me anymore, and I love my zombie headshots.

Sidenote: how did everyone get so good at shooting zombies? I mean, I get them being good at using guns from Shane and Rick's training, but they get a headshot pretty much every single time. Even Lori, the most useless woman on the planet is an adequate zombie-hunter. There was even an episode with Andrea learning how to shoot them zombies and totally sucking at shooting moving targets. When did freaking Carl get this lesson? How did he go from being too afraid to shoot a zombie, point blank, stuck in the mud to shooting his best friend in the head, at night, over his father's shoulder? Other sidenote: how many rounds does Herschel's shotgun hold? Other OTHER sidenote: Why do zombies get the jump on so many people? How come they never realize that a slow, growling, thumping monster is right behind them?

General Discussion » Which Oscar Nominee Should Have Won??

I really, really, really enjoyed Moneyball, Hugo, and Midnight in Paris. Any of those would've been fine in my book. The only other movie on that list I liked was the Artist, which, while pleasant and unique, just wasn't as good as the praise it's been getting, aside from that which was toward Jean Dujardin.

If I had to choose one, it'd probably be Midnight in Paris, mainly because it got me to finally cast aside my long-time hatred of the French. Well, at least Parisians.

General Discussion » Best Ridley Scott Film?

Am I the only one who loved Matchstick Men? Easily my favorite performance from Nicolas Cage, and a very fun and thought-provoking con movie. Blade Runner's a close second, but there will always be a place in my heart for Matchstick Men.

Community » So did anyone manage to catch Community returning?

It was good. To me, episodes of community boil down into two categories:

1. A Parody/Spoof/Homage

2. A kinda relatively traditional Sitcom.

While the latter usually incorporates some of the former, it's clear when an episode is focusing simply on the characters interacting. When Community isn't spoofing something, it's usually still pretty damn great of a show, and still easily the best comedy on TV, barring Parks and Recreation. However, when it does parody something, it just goes beyond.

General Discussion » Is anyone interested in a weekly TV ratings roundup?

I'd read it, although I don't think ratings for every single show is needed. Just for some favorites or irregularities, like Community this week, which had a relatively big bump, although one could assume that was mostly because of a lot of advertising for its return, and Big Butt Theory not being on at the same time like it normally is. Did you see what I did there with the name?

But anyways, I like to know about show ratings, because they let me know if what I'm watching is likely to stay on the air or not, and is also another reason for me to hate humanity.

Off-Topic » The new Tested launched

Yeah, really weird to have it now be Jamie and Adam's Tested. I assumed they would just write an occasional article or something, but now they're referring to it as "our new website".

But hey, I just read an article Will wrote about artificial hearts, and it was pretty interesting. I guess we won't see their faces as much anymore, but they'll at least be writing more.

And hey, "Will Smith's Tested" would probably get way more clicks than "Jamie and Adam's Tested". Just saying.

General Discussion » Im going to cry.

Well, this is looking rather grim. Screened is the only movie news site I can stand or not feel guilty about. It has exposed me and persuaded my viewing of many of my favorite films. Were it not for Screened, I probably wouldn't have seen Rushmore, Eternal Sunshine, Drive, Justified, or the Walking Dead. It's a great site, and Rorie, Alex, and Joey have done some amazing work on it. I will still remember the inspired 30 days of hate. I hope things stick together.

Maybe this will give us some hope, though. Perhaps if Screened doesn't work out, Rorie could found Puppy Palace, a new website for all things puppy.

The Descendants - 4/5

Very solid and entertaining Drama, with some great performances. That being said, it is still a flawed film, and the teenage guy in it is insufferable.
