Reviewing movies is a lot like clawing up an expensive leather sofa. It's a lot of fun while you're doing it, and in the end if you've done it well, you're going to piss off a lot of people. Everybody has a favorite movie, one that sings to their soul, that they can quote huge chunks of dialogue from, one that they instantly recognize any random piece of music that was used. Movies are really the perfect storm of sensory input in that they blend visual and aural. Sound and motion, light and shadow, since the main advent of motion picture technology in 1895, movies have transplanted everything as the mother culture for everything pop.
People get crazy about their movies. Movie fans are more rabid than even comic book fans, and that's saying a lot. When you put on paper (electronic or otherwise) a ratiocination of why someone's favorite movie sucked, sparks are going to fly. And sparks, ladies and gentlemen, are what it's all about. My point with all this florid prose is simply this: When you're reviewing, be true to what you feel. Not everybody is going to like what you write, and that's okay. If you're lucky, your review will spawn 20+ pages of heated comments that eventually degenerate into random name-calling.
A while ago my wife, who loathes going to the theater with a passion she usually reserves for child pornographers and date-rapists, made a deal with me. She would go with me to any movie any time (finances permitting of course) as long as afterwards, I published a review about it. Through some weird course of cosmic alignment, and the possibility that the world might actually reset at the end of 2012 like the Mayans figured it would (thereby shrinking her potential torture to less than a year before everything reboots and I forget about the deal), she has reinstated the original bargain with me. I aim to take full advantage of this, and I've come over to Screened to help me do it.
I figured I'd start by posting a bunch of old reviews, poking around the quests, and fixing some stuff on the Wiki... before payday hits and she gets stuck going to Red Tails with me. I'll let you know how it all pans out.
