Most every film I've seen that was billed as "controversial" turned out to be a shitty movie with, idunno, a poop eating scene or something. So the lesson is if you make a shitty film, make sure to include some obtuse stunt scene so you can trick a bunch of people into seeing something for the "shocking scene" that got this crappy movie banned or whatever. I was always big on the Sting/Hulk Hogan feud. So invested in fact that in blew my mind when they worked together on Thunder in Paradise. I was all like "how are they not beating each other up" my brain could handle it, also Sting without makeup.

Loki's not going to continue being the main villain. I think Thanos will eventually be the threat mostly by merit of other supervillains being too closely tied to failed franchises (Fantastic Four, Ghostrider, etc.) or the Xmen. No Country For Old Men ending rant (spoilers for certain)

The ending made the movie. I don't sit down for films so I can tell myself everything gets better after bad things happen. I can take antidepressants if I want that illusion distilled.

I do love how you framed it in the headline and I agree that by and large, a lot of movies feel more like videogames because they're taking a razor thin premise and turning it into 2 hour explosions. Not to say there werent always dumb blockbusters, but the bar seems lower year by year.

Special Edition came out right before the advent of the DVD. I have to think the treatrical versions got a DVD release in the early 00s just because nobody could be happy with that awful CGI Jabba, not even George Flucas. I do feel like the execution, mind the premise, of this show was built on cynical producer assumptions about what the lowly masses like. And I applaud the "lowly masses" for seeing the show was beneath them. Everything about that movie felt like it meant to appeal to 9-12 year old boys. From ignoring emotional subtext behind the dead mom to the dancing robot. Im fine saying this film was very clearly not made for me. I don't go to kids movies typically and complain that they act like kid's movies. And really the trailers advertised it as such so its my own fault for going.

I forget how to play Magic right after I finish playing. Thing about CCGs is they can only be played with 1 other person at a time typically and that's the limiting factor for me.
