My Top Five TV Shows still on Air!
1. Dexter

As one of the most starkly original shows I've ever seen Dexter is one of my favorite shows if not of all time. When I first got Netflix I decided to check out the show and then I immediately burnt through the two available seasons. The writing does have it's ups and downs but the staff has the balls to radically change the dynamic of the entire show.

2. The Venture Bros.

Perhaps next only to the Batman animated series this is the best cartoon I have ever seen. The Venture Bros has me consistently laughing on the floor more times than any other comedy in existence. But what is great is the fact that I am invested in the lives of the characters. I actually care what happens to them because the writing and plots of this show are some of the best ever animated. Even when this show goes off the air people will be watching for years and will quickly become one of the great shows in the modern era.

3. Fringe

This is perhaps the best SciFi show on TV today. Combined with the great ideas of the X-files and the over arching mysterious plot of Lost Fringe is a truly great look at the horrors and magnificence of science. Also John Nobles portrayal of the tragic Walter Bishop is worth checking out the show alone.

4. True Blood

There are bad shows and movies and then there are Bad shows and movies. True Blood is the later. It completely recognizes the soap opera cheesy elements it brings to the table and revels in them. You want boobs? Here's all the boob we can give you. You want vampires acting brooding and discussing politics? We got that in spades. I've always had a rule that as long as you're self aware and use that to your advantage in a slick why you have my attention.

5. Warehouse 13

I know some people *cough*Rorie*cough* have a problem with the comedy and attitude of this show but honestly that's the charm the show brings to me. Also I find the universe compelling. The fact that these objects can have different effects simple because they were handled or made by extraordinary people is fascinating to me. On top of that Alison Scagliotti is hot and the cast has amazing chemistry.

I've always been interested in Dexter but I've always managed to avoid it because the single episode I watched seemed like a CSI episode but with a killer as the main character. What sets it apart from other shows such as this (not necessarily having a killer as the main character but the whole criminal investigation vibe)?

@Kutabi: First off it's no where near as procedural as CSI (it's really not a procedural at all) and every season has a huge over arching plot that makes it feel more like a drama or a thriller than just another crime show. On top of that it's a show about the characters and not the crimes their trying to solve. Most times the police never catch who's responsible. Honestly go back and watch the first episode it plays like a mini movie, it's on netflix. Dexter has more in common with shows like Six Feet Under and Sopranos then anything on network television.

Do you remember the episode you watched? Perhaps I can give you a little context.

All I remember from the episode I saw was something to do with a quartered person (as in chopped up) being found in a pool with all their blood completely drained out. It then went on to be some sort of  criminal investigation and ended with Dexter murdering some middle-aged man in a factory for some reason or another.
