You've all been nice enough to comment on the list, so now I'm going to ruin it all by coming up with lame reasons why I like these actresses - besides pointing out that they're hot. Which they are...right.

1. Kate Beckinsale
Of course, #1 had to be the genetic masterpiece herself. Besides being the most attractive woman on the planet ever (amazing accent too), Kate's actually a very strong actress. She was brilliant in Nothing But the Truth, but also underrated in films like The Aviator and Much Ado About Nothing. Regardless of the quality of the movie (and she's been in a few poor ones), I always find her to be an incredibly engaging screen presence. One of these days I'll write a proper blog - 'Defending your actress: Kate Beckinsale'... |

2. Carey Mulligan
More adorable than the world's supply of puppies and kittens combined. Also, this girl's super talented. If you haven't done so already, you really must watch An Education and especially Never Let Me Go. Her voice alone is simply incredible; makes my heart melt/makes me want to cry every time I hear it... |

|
3. Jennifer Connelly
She's usually very solid, regardless of her role. On top of that performances in films like A Beautiful Mind just seem effortless and natural; she comes across as a refined actress, producing considered showings. |
|
|
4. Rachel McAdams
She's just got one of those faces that immediately screams innocence and always appears genuine in her portrayals. She uses this naivety well in films like State of Play and Red Eye. Did a good job in Mean Girls; didn't get the most interesting role in Sherlock Holmes. |

|
5. Odette Annable
Ok, so lets be honest, she's not the best actress on this list. But, she's very attractive and is pretty good in specific roles. Take You Again for example - she easily switches from cute/likable to evil/snarky, and achieves good results. Alright, not exactly groundbreaking stuff, but she could carve out a career in roles like these. Cloverfield was good fun too. |

6. Evangeline Lilly
As a long term Lost fan, Evie had to be here, though having only really seen her on that show, I can't say I know how versatile she is. Either way, she does that bewildered/troubled thing really well and looks good doing it. After writing her bio, it seems like she's a really grounded person too, unlike many in the biz. Of course, this doesn't affect her acting ability, but it made me respect her a lot more. |

|
7. Yvonne Strahovski
Great in Chuck! She's great at doing the all-action spy with emotions and has this great, natural chemistry with Zach Levi. Added to that, she's Australian - not that you could tell from her acting - she's got a flawless American accent. My only wish is that she'd have more comedic lines - the rare occasions where she enters banter are top notch, just all too rare. |

|
8. Amy Adams
My friends and I regularly have the Amy Adams vs Isla Fisher debate and I always find myself falling on Amy's side. She's got real character to her, and conveys this sense of vulnerability and yet is always entirely charming. She's a proper actress too - and already has 2 Oscar noms under her belt. |
|
|
9. Jordana Brewster
Another example of me basing my appreciation off only a few roles. The Fast and the Furious was pretty mindless/alright fun, but it was her part as Jill in Chuck that got her on this list. She made me all confused over the whole Chuck/Sarah relationship thing...wouldn't mind seeing her back on the show at some stage. |
Can't say I'm too familiar with Summer Glau's work. I've got Serenity on my laptop, but I'm waiting to see Firefly before I see the film. Any of her other shows that I should check out?
I'm willing to kick Amy Adams and Rachael Taylor off the list, so there's potentially an opening here...
@skidd: Stop procrastinating and watch Firefly! I'll send you my DVD's if you want! It's 13 episodes of greatness. Other notable Summer performances is in Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Especially the seasons 2 episode, Allison from Palmdale, if you don't fancy watching all of T:TSCC watch this one episode, absoloutely mindblowing performance).
This list definitely would be improved with more Summer.
Good stuff, I'll borrow Firefly from my friend, he kept trying to get me to watch it. I guess I should finally check it out...
Just to figure out what I should expect - I loved the old Star Wars; not so much Star Trek, but the new movie was great. Will this fit my taste reasonably well?
The dialogue and relationships really make the show, there isn't much like it on TV now which is what makes its cancellation cut deeper.
She also plays a good role in the series The 4400. She's only on it for a couple episodes mostly in season 2 I think.
I would have to say since I've watched a lot of movies from Kate Beckinsale and Amy Adams, I would rank them both at number 1, but Kate is hotter and Amy is more likely to win more film awards.
@cosmicx: Yep, I'm with you there. Amy has definitely made smarter career moves and has been reaping the rewards for the last few years and will probably continue to do so for a while longer.
Kate has an incredible superstar quality but perhaps has made some poorer choices career-wise (and on occasion has been a little unlucky) and is left with limited choices as a result. Having met her though, she is absolutely stunningly beautiful and really friendly (in my encounter anyway - can't say what she's like normally!)
