Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol » I Think I Missed Something in the Plot (spoilers)

I just got back from seeing Mission Impossible 4, and I was really confused about something. Perhaps I missed an important plot point. Here goes...

The IMF agents pose as doubles for a swap at the Burj hotel to find out where Cobalt is. They have Jane pretend to be the assassin with the codes, while Ethan & Brandt meet with the actual assassin and pretend to be Cobalt's associates who want to buy the codes. Brandt looks at the actual launch codes, which then transmits them to the other briefcase in Jane's room. Jane gets the diamonds and gives the briefcase with the fake codes to Cobalt's guys. Meanwhile Ethan & Brandt's cover gets blown and they wind up killing everybody except for the assassin chick. At this point, Jane goes after the assassin while Ethan goes after Cobalt's guy.

Prior to this, they show that when Brandt takes a picture of a series of numbers, they get scrambled. Then how is it that Cobalt is able to get the real codes, since his guy walked out of the hotel with the briefcase that he got from Jane? Was there some point where they swapped briefcases, or were the codes not scrambled or something?

Franklin & Bash » Anyone Liking This Show?

I caught the first two episodes of Franklin & Bash. I don't like legal shows, but this one's starting off pretty well. I expected Mark Paul and Breckin to be funny, and they are, but I was not expecting Malcolm McDowell's character to be as interesting as he is. The scene where he was talking to their client but kept going on and on about having a song stuck in his head was unexpected and pretty damn funny.

United States of Tara » Deadline: United States of Tara Cancelled

From deadline.com:

Showtime has renewed dark comedy series Nurse Jackie for a fourth season. Meanwhile, it's the end of the road for fellow comedy United States of Tara, which is being canceled after three seasons. Additionally, Showtime's drama The Borgias, which has already been renewed for a second season, wrapped its freshman run last night.

It's a shame, but I think they've lost their way on this show.  The daughter is adrift, they don't know what to do with the husband, and they're just throwing new alters out there without any real reason.  I like Toni Colette, but it's probably a good idea to cut it now while it's still somewhat interesting rather than letting it run completely off the rails, like Weeds.

Breakout Kings » Anyone Else Watching Breakout Kings? What Do You Think?

I'm not much of a fan of police procedurals, but I'm finding that I like Breakout Kings.  I don't really feel like it's bringing anything new to the table, but it's well executed and decently written.  Jimmi Simpson is getting more attention than the other characters at this point, which isn't surprising as he's the most interesting and funny character at this point.  I'd like to see them spend more time on Serinda Swan and Malcolm Goodwin's characters so we can get to know them and care about their problems.

As of last night's episode, the show is falling into a decent groove, with enough unexplained background and potential story arcs to make this show pretty interesting.  Truthfully, if this show wasn't on AMC then I wouldn't have given a second look.  For now, it's pretty good background noise while I'm working on something else.  It has potential, but it's not a must-see yet.

General Discussion » Screened - I need your (film) advice!

Fight Club (Chuck Palahniuk) or Less Than Zero (Bret Easton Ellis).  Both movies and novels are disturbing as hell, but really good film translations.  You could also go with American Pyscho (also Ellis), though Less Than Zero is a lot shorter of a read.  It's too bad that Ender's Game hasn't become a movie yet.

Off-Topic » What do you guys make for lunch?

I make a sandwich for work, unless I have leftovers.

I put the cheese and meat on a piece of bread and toast it in the toaster oven, so the cheese melts the bread and meat together.  I then add avocado and lettuce (and tomato if my wife's already sliced it).  I use mayo, dijon mustard, sriracha, and Penzey's sandwich sprinkle.  It sounds like a pain in the ass when I write it, but it only takes a few minutes and I work on it while I'm waiting for my coffee to brew.  Then I throw that, an apple, and a can of soda into a bag.

General Discussion » Create an Inscription for the Robocop Statue

As Alex reported here, Detroit is raising funds to create a statue of Robocop.  So, Screened, what inscription would you put with a larger-than-life cyborg Alex Murphy?

Mine:  "Don't move, creep.'

#99 and it took forever because the last Death Eater's character page wasn't linked in the movies' credits.  I fixed that, so he/she should be a LOT easier to find.

I watched a couple of episodes.  While my brain understands that this is an objectively great show, I don't really like it.  It's getting removed from the DVR queue.

Off-Topic » I need a name to go on my shirt

Help me screened.com!

We're starting up a bowling league at work and are getting bowling shirts made up.  Our team is called Prestige Worldwide (I didn't come up with it).  We're getting a name embroidered on the front, and I'm trying to not go with "Blair."  The problem being, when you're name is Blair, you don't tend to get a nickname.  Sooo

Can y'all think up a single word that would be kick ass on a shirt?  I'm trying to avoid obvious stuff like "Dude" or "Shitfuck."  I would've asked the giantbomb guys, but they'd probably say something like "DarthMaulSephirothandAkumaAllInTheSameGuy."

Red » Free Screening Tonight (10/5) in Philly/Houston

IGN is giving away passes for a free screening of Red tonight.  Only Philly and Houston still have availability.  In Philly, Karl Urban will be doing a Q&A afterwards.  I actually live outside of Philly, but I think it's too much of a hike to go to the Ritz Theater, so I'll pass.

Editing & Tools » Request a name/alias change here

  • Incorrect Title: "Fast Track"
  • Change: The movie's name to "The Ex."
  • Rationale: The movie was renamed to "The Ex" sometime before release.
  • Alias?: Fast Track should remain as an alias.

Ha, oops.  Bad mistake from the dude with close to 8,000 wiki points on Giantbomb, and whose first video game was Donkey Kong :P

The King of Kong » Steve Wiebe Retook the King Kong Record

Yesterday, Twin Galaxies announced that Steve Wiebe edged out Billy Mitchell to retake the Donkey Kong world record.  It's changed hands three times so far this year, so Mitchell might retake it, but good for Steve.  Pretty much anyone who watched the King of Kong wants to see him succeed, and Billy Mitchell to get a hot sauce enema.
