I find it very odd how my netflix account has revived my interest in movies, and more specifically, Screened.com

Films That I Get

This is my list of films that I personally love. Also, even if I don't necessarily list them as personal favorites, they are still movies where I can fully embrace and sympathize with the critical or popular success.

1. The Boondock Saints

I fully understand the critical shunning, and cult worship, of this movie. It is pretty simple and shallow, but to an 18-34 male, it is pure badassness.

2. Donnie Darko

I fully understand why so many people profess their love for this movie, but then can't explain a single thing about it. It is so pretentiously great in an unassuming way. It is sort of like that new bagel place that only makes one order, only takes cash, and only has one table, but since everyone thinks it is a niche, out of the way place, they flock there. You can have a huge air of superiority over anyone who dismisses it, but no one will really question you because it comes across as a low budget, college, friendly film.

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

I am entering the first one, but I really mean the whole series. I completely understand why these movies are so popular. They are fun, irreverent, and really hit on a great level for that sort of stupid college frat boy humor. Maybe not necessarily quality films in any regard, nonetheless I fully embrace them along with seemingly everyone else.

4. Avatar

Although this is a movie a lot of critics love to hate for its recycled Pochahontas, Fern Gully, or any other imperial colonialism story, I personally was completely swept up by the movie, and very disappointed when it ended. I was one of those who never wanted to leave Pandora... It was a sci-fi world so beautifully imagined, that nothing else really mattered. Also, except for Michelle Rodriguez, I thought the acting was generally superb. My recommendation: Go for the 3D. Except for when letters and numbers are on screen, the 3D is gorgeous.

5. The Breakfast Club

Obviously this movie was well before my time, but having watched it with my mother, I really fell in love with it. Although the specifics of the characters may be slightly different today, the way they relate together is timeless and spot on.

6. There Will Be Blood

One of my favorite character studies. First of all, the acting is amazing. Secondly, the setting and period detail is perfectly executed, if not fully accurate. And finally, the story is one that you don't need to be a movie buff or fan of character dramas to appreciate. Also, milkshakes.
