John Carter » So, Disney just released 10 minutes of "John Carter"

@Mr_skeleton: Indeed. The marketing has been awful, but after looking past the marketing and into the production (who was writing and directing mainly), I began to hold out hope. It looks like an old fashioned blockbuster from this clip, which is something I don't see enough in theaters now (on that note, "Tintin" was the most fun I've had in a theater in a long LONG time).

John Carter » So, Disney just released 10 minutes of "John Carter"

To be honest, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It has no Mars action, and it's almost all new footage.

Hidden Gems » Death Becomes Her (1992)

Why does everyone hate this film? I personally love its hilariously dark humor and bizarre tone. Plus, seeing Bruce Willis as a nerdy alcoholic surgeon is just plain surreal. Am I alone in liking this film? And, while we're at it, this is Robert Zemeckis' final good film. Just my opinion.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit » Disney, Where the Hell is Roger Rabbit (on Blu-Ray)?

I saw this movie for the first time recently and thought it was an amazing film. It's arguably the best crossover film ever made and features several landmarks in film history (Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse in the same scene, enough said). Not only was it's blending of live actors and animation ground breaking, it still holds up under scrutiny, and it was all hand drawn. But effects and crossovers aside, it had an interesting noir story and some slick acting and direction as well.

I know how Disney is about "opening the Disney vault" or whatever, but I would die to see this released on Blu-Ray. As someone who grew up almost exclusively on old school cartoons, Roger Rabbit is an absolute joy to watch for references to the Golden Age of animation. I can't be the only one with this opinion, right?

Hidden Gems » Brazil (1985)

@ryanwho: Not to be an asshole, but you know that "12 Monkeys" was based off of a French film called "La Jetee", right? It's a semi remake of the film, Universal had to pay money to acquire the rights to make it. Then Gilliam got his hands on the project and the rest is history.

@Red: I watched it with my parents and it went all right. My parents were mostly just fans of Monty Python, but my dad was a huge fan of "Time Bandits" which helped him.

Hidden Gems » Repo Man (1984)

I watched this off Netflix recently. That speech was one of my favorite parts, but Miller is a really fun character to listen to. His ramblings almost make sense. Almost.

Hidden Gems » Brazil (1985)

One of my all time favorite films and arguably one of the best satires ever created in any medium. I recently showed it off to a group of my friends at a movie night. Went surprisingly well, I was a bit afraid that it might have been too dense for some of my friends. But for me, I will never forget the last 20 minutes or so of this film and seeing it for the first time. The ending absolutely blew me away. But it couldn't have ended any other way.

Hidden Gems » Stop Motion

I practically grew up on Ray Harryhausen. His films were the reason I became obsessed with special effects, and ultimately film at a very young age. I will never ever forget the skeleton duel in "Jason and the Argonauts". I'm trying to remember how much time it took Ray to animate just that scene, something like 2 or 3 months I think.
