General Discussion » Worst "Best Picture"

I voted for Shakespeare in Love, but the real answer was absent: Forrest Gump, both for the quality of the film itself and the films it robbed.

General Discussion » Which of these 'losers' deserved "Best Picture" the most?

@PatVB said:

I vote for pretty much everything except for Avatar and The Descendants.

This. 2009 should've been Inglorious Basterds and 2011 had no standout film that makes me outraged The Artist won. And 2010: Social Network.

I voted for Pulp Fiction/Shawshank Redemption. Forrest Gump isn't just a film that didn't deserve any wins, but deserved no nominations either. Other than Citizen Kane it is my go-to for "fuck the Oscars" examples.

SpongeBob SquarePants » Because you didn't ask for it, Paramount is making another film.

Spongebob Squarepants movie is fucking great. However, I'd be a little apprehensive about a new Spongebob movie. Either that show got bad or I grew up. But Gary Whitta behind the script has me more willing. He has a healthy amount of child in him (that came out wrong).

General Discussion » Have you ever been bothered by a seemingly minor plot point?

Fight Club is my favorite movie ever, but there's this one scene that bugs the shit out of me. It's the scene where Edward Norton and Tyler Durden are in the car and they crash it. Out of context, it's a great scene. One of the best in the movie. But, I have not been able to get down the logistics of it, given the nature of these characters.

So... whose driving? In the scene we see Tyler behind the wheel. Tyler doesn't exist, so is it Ed Norton as Tyler? Sure, but Ed tells the two Space Monkeys in the back to shut up and they react accordingly. Tyler also addresses one of them and they answer. Are they not there too? Doing that makes much of the movie irrelevant because it's basically just saying the whole film is a dream, or all the characters were populated by Ed's mind? The crash must've happened because how else would Ed have been injured? Who pulled him out of the car? Ed Norton (the real one) points out on the commentary that Tyler pulls Ed out of the driver side. If the story is being told from the Narrator's perspective, how do we see things he was not witness to (Meat Loaf and the dude with the hose fucking with people)?

This has kept me up countless nights. Almost all have ended with me watching the movie and just enjoying it.

Battleship » Am I the only one non-ironically looking forward to this?

First off: $200,000,000. 200 million dollars. thats million bucks.

200 million on a movie based on a board game. Basically, if I don't see this opening day, I will never forgive myself.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace » This has now crossed the $1 Billion mark.

I call bologna. You can't count re-releases with original releases. There were changes beyond the 3D that technically make this a different movie.

Millennium Falcon » A Millennium Falcon built in Lego

I recently found the gigantic tub that housed my childhood LEGOs. No LEGOs were found. It was an amazing collection. I tear up just thinking about all the mismatched colors and bits of Harry Potter sets.

The Big Bang Theory » The Big Bang Theory Fan thread!

@ThePickle: sorry I can't @ reply on my phone. I agree it's not loved by everyone and yes it was a sweeping statement. I used it to incorporate aspects of the show that I knew people interested in those areas would enjoy. I was not meaning to imply EVERYONE who was keen on said areas would also love the show. I can see why it would appear that way and stand corrected. There obviously is a large hate base for it, but it has a ton of fans too. It's a silly bit of fun that nods to the geek in me :) I made this thread as a fan thread, not a "do you like BBT" thread. Its Sad to see its become a joke of a show and that people on here can't just allow a fan thread without needing to put it down.

I'm sorry if your thread got derailed. The only reason I stepped in is because I was so stunned by how ridiculous that comment. Ignoring the improper grammar (do people seriously not get the difference between "your" and "you're" yet?) it just seemed like an outright untrue statement.

General Discussion » Netflix Instant - What's Worst Thing Going Away Feb. 29, 2012?

We've already lost Monty Python. I can't see it getting any worse.

The Pixar Story will be a big loss. I've been seeing that in my queue since I got Netflix. Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride will also be missed, but the Busey interview is on YouTube so I can already see the best part if I wanted too.

Clearly though, the biggest loss is White Chicks.

If your a geek, Nerd, Comic Fan, Film Fan, Science fan or anything you will love this series!

That seems like quite a leap and most people here would say it's not true.

Why's that? Saying its quite a leap is a rather big way to pour cold water on a fairly casual comment... its a very sweet series. If you hate it fine, but every one of my rather large friend base adores it and every one of them are one of the types listed, so my comment stands fairly substantiated.

People on here not liking it is fine, got no problem with that. What I got a problem with is people who can't allow others to enjoy their choices.

I'm saying it's a large assumption to say if you like any of these things you will like this series. That's just not true about anything, especially a show that many comic and film fans hate.

I've had "Troy and Abed in the mooooornin" in my head since I first heard it over a year ago. I say it all the time, mostly to myself. When other people are present they have no idea what I'm talking about.
