Favorite movies in some semblance of order.

Movies I absolutely adore. Adding descriptions backwards, so most at the top won't have them.

1. Metropolis
2. Mallrats
3. The Big Lebowski

I love the Big Lebowski, one of my very favorite films. It is incredibly entertaining and one I go back and watch again and again. Jeff Bridges is great as the Dude and Steve Buscemi and John Goodman are both wonderful as well. Fun Fact: I love the Big Lebowski so much that I became an ordained minister of Dudeism.

4. A Clockwork Orange
5. Raging Bull
6. The Wizard of Oz
7. Psycho
8. Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs is one of the greatest movies ever made. Hands down Tarantino's best. It's almost a perfect movie. I love the cast in this movie, but Harvey Keitel has always stood out for me.

9. The Warriors

The Warriors is a movie I constantly go back to and watch again and again. It's just so damn good.

10. Nosferatu
11. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
12. Watchmen

I don't think this movie gets the praise it deserves. I hope it will be hailed properly sometime in the future, the same way Blade Runner came to be recognized as a classic.

13. Clerks.
14. 2001: A Space Odyssey

2001 is the ultimate art film. It is endlessly discussed and the ending leaves it so open to your own interpretation. While I have nothing new to add to that discussion I can say that I love this movie and think it is an endlessly important movie.

15. Alien

Ahh, Alien, the gem I recently discovered. This is a movie I just recently watched for the first time and I loved it. It's one of the only horror movies that really hit me. It is terrifying in every way. It has jump scares that are actually earned and it's the single most atmospheric movie I've ever seen, and the aspects of body horror are deeply scary and insightful. All the rape metaphors are laid out plainly and are there for you to interpret and ponder. Alien is considered a classic and rightfully so.

16. The Great Dictator

I love Charlie Chaplin, and in my opinion, this is his best film. It's an amazing satire, that while it shied away from some of the more gruesome things that Hitler did, it still shined a bright spotlight on something that was fairly in the dark at the time, at least in America. A truly touching and inspiring film.

17. Night of the Living Dead
18. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Scott Pilgrim is a great movie and even better adaption. I love the graphic novels and adore the movie. It's genuinely funny and has great nods to geek culture. A movie made for nerds that everyone can appreciate.

19. Batman
20. The Man Who Wasn't There

I love the Coen brothers, as you can probably tell, and I think this is one of their best films. A really cool nod to film noir of the past.

21. Fargo

Man, I love Fargo. It's just a hilarious movie. I can re-watch this movie endlessly, and it just gets better and better each time.

22. American History X

I love American History X, I think that it can be looked at as an almost educational film on racial relations and tensions in the 90's as well as today. It's a smart and engaging film that leaves you thinking long after you've finished watching it.

23. Moon

Moon is a great piece of psychological Sci-Fi as all the science fiction elements are just a back drop for a psychological story. I really, really love this movie. This is a great example of the fact that their are fresh ideas and unique movies still being made.

24. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

I love Bill & Ted, I think that both movies are just excellent. They're funny and simple satires of the whole Valley Boy thing of the 80's and I just adore them. And remember, Be excellent to each other and party on dudes!

25. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

This is on here as a representation of the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy. All three of these films are just amazing, although the second one is definitely my favorite. The Lord of the Rings is an epic saga and the movies did right by J.R.R. Tolkien's vision. True fantasy masterpieces

26. Superman
27. The Crow
28. Escape from New York
29. Red State
30. Big Trouble in Little China
31. Spider-Man 2
32. V for Vendetta

I love V for Vendetta, it's superbly acted and the script and special effects are top notch.

33. Halloween
34. Pulp Fiction
35. Seven Samurai
36. A Fistful of Dollars
37. Planet of the Apes
38. Dogtown and Z-Boys

I love both films about the Zephyr skate team, but I've always preferred this documentary. As a skateboarder I owe a debt to the Z-boys for pushing it so much farther and progressing the sport so much.

39. Kill Bill: Vol. 2

Kill Bill Vol. 2, man, I love this movie. I thought it was a bit more action packed than the first. The fight at the end was definitely more satisfying than the one at the end of the last film between the Bride and O-Ren, and really I think it was an overall better film.

40. The Golem: How He Came Into the World
41. Kill Bill: Vol. 1

Kill Bill Vol.1 was the movie that made me fall in love with Quentin Tarantino, who appears quite a lot on this list. Kill Bill is just such an amazing film, and it's so unique. It combines aspects of Spaghetti Westerns with Samurai revenge flicks in the most perfect combination of genres of the last 20 years.

42. Toy Story

This is a stand in for all of the Toy Stories as I love all of them. They're all really smart animated features that have permanently effected the landscape of animation.

43. The Untouchables

The Untouchables is an great film, highlighted by a strong script and an as expected, great performance from Robert De Niro as Al Capone.

44. Back to the Future

Back to the Future is just a fun movie. It's pure entertainment. The perfect popcorn film and one you can watch at just about any time.

45. Children of Men

Children of men is a dazzling film. It looks great and it's deftly directed and Clive Owen's performance is appropriately detached and at the same time very engaging and emotional.

46. Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver is considered by many to be Scorsese's best film and while I don't agree with that, it is definitely a masterpiece. Martin Scorsese's direction is pitch perfect as is the pacing and the script, but what really makes this movie is the performance from Robert De Niro.

47. Chasing Amy

Chasing Amy is probably the most emotionally charged and dramatic of the Jersey Trilogy and I love it all the more for it. Everything about this movie is great. The script is smart, as every Kevin Smith script is, Ben Affleck is perfect(I think this is his best performance ever) and Joey Lauren Adams is just as good, but the real surprise here is Jason Lee. He was good in Mallrats and he's even better here, he plays Banky perfectly. This is as close to nirvana as comedies come.

48. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

It's Empire! Who doesn't love this movie?

49. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Every "black" comedy made after Dr. Strangelove owes an immense debt to it, as it's the forerunner of them all, and quite possible still the very best ever made.

50. Lolita

Lolita is a wonderful, if puzzling, film. I think that it's wonderfully acted and Stanley Kubrick's direction is flawless.

@VioletEyedDragon: The list is a work in progress, that's the only reason Pixar movies are missing.

Thanks for recommending the list :)
