Quests » Are the quests just... dead?
that's a shame.
Quests were such a great part of this community for me. I've been away for a little while, but I remember filing through so many movies and actors trying to find the solution to one riddle or another. And sure, there was a bit of "cheating" on the forums and some of the community based connection quests could be gamed with a little agreement between members, but there was something about the entire system that was too great for me to do those sort of things. I've still never gotten my 100 wall posts, and when I do I know it'll be earned as a reward for being a real part of this community.
The big move was a little while back and if that's why the ride is over, fine(?), but I would just love to see some of these things come back. It was part of that Whiskey charm and I miss it.
A poster to a film is your first connection to it online and in the theatre lobby. Their power is that these posters, at their finest, can compress the entire tone/content of a film into a single iconic image that will last forever in the mind of a fan. The Sting. The Godfather. Star Wars. When you hear those words what is the first image to fill your mind? (I would have said Animal House, but we're presently using a special edition box art for some reason...)
TV shows don't use this system. They use a constant string of different cast photos to advertise every event and season that goes live or to dvd. Their boxset covers and fullpage magazine ads are largely ephemeral and just fall short of the iconic stature of a movie poster.
They do however have title cards.
I've primarily been focusing on filling out the comedy sketch shows in the archives and the more I work through the more I realize that title cards to television shows are images that become ingrained in our minds. And not because of an advertising push of an image on every bus in town, but because it is the single frame that occurs the most throughout an entire series. And if the show is important enough to our community members to warrant trivia sections and episode guides the odds are that the emotional connection shared to it didn’t come from Season 3 box art or a throw away one sheet.
@Dudacles you're completely wrong on that LOST comment. That image and tone will forever represent that show in my mind. I can see it with my eyes closed at a single strained note.

ps. interestingly, this is a battle that wikipedia went through as well and they sided with cards largely. (they can't always be wrong)
