General Discussion » Do you read the book or watch the movie first?

It varies for me a lot.  Classic literature I always try to read before I watch.  There are always exceptions, though.  My experience with The Count of Monte Cristo (anime) was much richer for not having read the book first because of the protagonist shift and total change of narrative structure (plot twists forever instead of intricate explanations), and my appreciation of the book was even better since I knew more or less what was happening.  I love reading, but I just don't have time for it like I did when I was in middle/high school.  Nowadays I tend to avoid movie adaptations because I don't want to spoil a book that I might read when I have more time.

General Discussion » I saw 'The Hunger Games' 12 years ago

There's nothing new under the sun, and that's especially true in Hollywood.  Seeing what filmmakers do with already-used concepts is half the fun, really.  But, yeah, I think the joke JeanLuc mentioned is pretty much the only productive thing to come out of all of the "It's exactly like Battle Royale" whining.

General Discussion » Potential Blog Project: The AFI Top 100 viewed by an amatuer

Could be interesting even though I have similar problems with those lists as I do with the Oscars (i.e. obviously selected by a bunch of old white dudes).  Do you think you'd go with classic Top 100 or the updated version?  I'm pretty sure the updated version just made things worse, but I can't remember.

Thank goodness.  I'm sure BB bought Whiskey Media because they at least liked some part of it, so hopefully it'll be all rainbows and sunshine from here on out.

General Discussion » Guy Gets The Girl Ending?

So that they never truly wind up with the romantic interest at any point in the movie? That's rough. Not much of a plot for that much rejection. Casablanca is the only movie I can think of because the 'relations' (if there were any at all) were off screen.

Lots of bitter-sweet romance to go around, though (where they're together in the movie but not at the end). Pretty much any Woody Allen, notably Annie Hall. Also, Cabaret, Gone with the Wind, Shakespeare in Love, The Maltese Falcon, Waitress, etc., etc.

General Discussion » Is anyone interested in a weekly TV ratings roundup?

As long as you can distinguish it from TV by the Numbers, that sounds great.

Staying optimistic.  If Joey's sticking with Whiskey then Screened could still get great video content and Rorie will always be Rorie no matter where he is (i.e. awesome).  I hope there have already been puppies in this thread, but if not...

Kai is one of the best ideas in the world. Still, it's a marketing ploy, not a new series.

Bug Reporting » About Me section resetting gender option

It's been that way since I joined over a year ago, if not longer.  Pretty sure top men are aware of it and are focusing on other issues instead.  But yeah, it's kind of annoying.
