Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, the Hellboy movies) is still putting the finishing touches on his bid-budget action extravaganza Pacific Rim, but when he is done, he will move on to his next directorial project: An original horror story called Crimson Peak. Del Toro, who wrote the screenplay with Matthew Robbins (and is rewriting it with Lucinda Coxon), describes it as "a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story" that will let him "play with the conventions of the genre...and at the same time subvert the old rules." So, no, there isn't anything resembling a plot synopsis.

A few weeks ago, the word was that del Toro was planning to follow up Pacific Rim with a dark, motion-capture retelling of the Pinocchio story, currently titled Pinocchio. Obviously, this news puts that project in question. It is possible that Mark Gustafson, who was said to be directing Pinocchio with del Toro, will do it solo. It is also possible that the project would be post-poned indefinitely. The del Toro/Gustafson film was already in a difficult position since the announcement that Tim Burton and Robert Downey Jr. might be making their own Pinocchio movie.

Del Toro said he is still hoping to make his passion project At the Mountain of Madness (an R-rated monster war epic) and hinted that studio and distributor Legendary might fund this if Pacific Rim is a success.
