Editing & Tools » New Cliché idea - "Former Secret Agent Retires in the Woods"

This immediately makes me think of Solid Snake retiring to the Alaskan wilderness to raise wolves. I'm sure there are loads of movie examples, can't think of any right now though.

Black Mirror » Waltz with Bashir music used

I believe Brooker is a fan of waltz with Bashir. He said something about crying at one of the scenes once.

Charlie Brooker » Black Mirror Episode 1 - The National Anthem

I think the best thing is how much of a Charlie Brooker premise it is - kind of something he might throw out offhand in an episode of screenwipe. Not only that, but it's taken dramatically seriously, not really played for laughs, so the humor is all the better for it.

Charlie Brooker » Black Mirror Episode 1 - The National Anthem

I also really enjoyed Black Mirror, especially due to the fact that the whole pig aspect wasn't revealed in the ads - the audience finds out alongside the PM. There was also a lot of well observed stuff, like people not believing it was real when it wasn't on tv. The culmination was quite harrowing, but I thought that the wrap up at the end put too fine a point on things that should have been left with you to think about.

Die Hard. Watching it is now a Christmas eve tradition for me.

Off-Topic » If you played FFXIII, are you going to play FFXIII-2?

I did finish XIII, but I sort of had battered wife syndrome by the end of it. It became habitual, today I play final fantasy for 30 minutes to an hour until it's finished and convince myself that it's not actually so bad. I think I'm best off not even beginning this new one.

@Rorie: Regardless, we have the re-release of final fantasy X to contend with - which will be spectacular.

General Discussion » Emma Stone or Scarlett Johansson?

I feel like you just know where you fall on this issue, rationale is irrelevant and the answer delineates the kind of man you are. Scarlett Johansson.

I've been harboring a desire to dress as Die Hard 1 John McClane for a while now. Still waiting for an opportunity to do so.

Off-Topic » Which games are you putting off until next year?

Not quite next year, but I'm planning to leave Batman till mid to late December. Our Uni exams definitely finish by the 17th, so that's a nice pre Christmas window to relax after exams and gorge on batman. Did the same thing with Assassins Creed Brotherhood last year and it worked out nicely.

Off-Topic » What's your ideal eight-hour shift?

Oh god I'm at Uni and reading this makes me scared. In my defense, I usually have to get up at 6 and have a 3 hour commute; so I'm closer to the real world than a lot of students.

Breaking Bad » Season 4 Episode Discussion Thread

I've always viewed Hank as the underlying hero of the show. As much as we all like Walt and Jesse breaking bad, Hank is pottering away in the background being the good guy. His character has really progressed amazingly far from the meathead brother in law that he was early in season one, and I think that once the show reaches it's denouement - looking at the story in it's entirety Hank will be the overarching hero of the piece.

Off-Topic » Book Club

I can tell you that Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer is an excellent non-fiction book. It was adapted into a pretty good film of the same name and it's a fairly lean 200 pages, which should make it a decent pick for a book club. It's about Christopher McCandless, a young man who finished college and began travelling America, wandering around the wilderness and eventually meeting a grim end in Alaska. You get a good analysis of McCandless' journey and character, and hear about some of the authors own exploits.

General Discussion » Empire: Cryptic Canvas Game

@Christina: For me, this stems from exam revision apathy. As long as I'm supposed to be revising this is the most important thing in the world.

If anyone is looking for some more perplexing movie image games, try out the cryptic canvas at Empire. Similar concept, but a bit more demanding.

General Discussion » Empire: Cryptic Canvas Game

Having recently played the lovefilm kettle chips competition, I was discussing it with a friend who happened to mention a very similar game which Empire ran on their website a few years ago. It's the same idea, an image rich with clues to the titles of 50 films hidden in a fairly clever and obtuse manner. It's a little tougher than the lovefilm counterpart, and there are no prizes to be won. However, the aforementioned kettle chips game left me wanting a little more, and the Empire game fills the void.

Anyway, here we are -  http://www.empireonline.com/crypticcanvas/ the ideal diversion for a Screened caliber movie fanatic.  Feel free to request and offer hints, but be discreet and use spoiler tags where appropriate.

The image itself, you will need to zoom in for some of these.

It took ages to figure out what was on that guys head. I was making stupid guesses, "mirror face?" "Water-cooler head?".
