So, what's up with that guy?

When the geologist and biologist get trapped in the thing, and he is talking to them over the coms, he seems to wink and laugh a little at one of his crew, as if he is happy they are trapped, or something.

Then, later on, when he is talking to them at night, when they find all the dead engineers, he says that their signal was weird, but we clearly see he is looking at a super-HD camera feed from them, and he seems to go out of his way to fuck with them about the potential life-form.

Just wondering if anyone has any theories. He seems like a good guy, who is no more in the loop than anyone else, but these little hints may suggest otherwise.

@RadioactiveGazz: I might be totally off base but wasn't he laughing because it was typical that it'd be those two that get stuck and it sucks for them that they have to sleep there overnight. Sort of like a friend laughing at another when something inconveniencing happens to another friend. 'Cause at this point there wasn't any reason for the captain to believe that there would be anything living left.

2nd point I don't remember that scene was he talking about sound problems/static on the video? maybe it was more of a disbelief comment

If anything it seems like he is more of a jokingly asshole captain

I like the pilot! I just saw Prometheus for a second time today and for the first time I noticed that the captain is absent from the bridge boning Vickers when the geologist and biologist meet the Muta-worms. He's also the only one besides David who really tries to get to the bottom of what the hell the black stuff is, and even proposes to Shaw how it could be a weapon.

Idris is the man.

Yeah, as far as he knew it was completely safe down there. Besides, you have to take into consideration that this is not the first time humans have been on other planets. They wouldn't be nearly as paranoid or concerned as someone living today, in 2012, with the the thought of having to spend the night on a foreign planet.
