Rachel Berry

Rachel Berry is 15 year old Jewish vegan that was one of the founding members of New Directions, along with Artie, Tina, Kurt, Mercades and Finn. Her two gay fathers raised her with an intense, dedicated attention to the theatrical arts. Rachel's inspiration and idol is Barbra Streisand. She won her first dance competition at the age of three. Her biological mother is Shelby Corcoran, the now former director of Vocal Adrenaline, to which New Directions lost to at Regionals at the end of season one.

Rachel was considered unpopular before New Directions formed and continued to receive unpleasant behavior continuing after, with receiving frozen slushies to the face since the Pilot episode. This behavior manifests as a Diva like attitude towards the Glee club, often being dominating, controlling and self absorbed, unwilling to share the spotlight with anyone else.

Her dream is to have a leading role in a Broadway musical, hoping that showcasing her talent and getting her out of Ohio. She started dating Jesse St. James, the lead of the rival Glee club, Vocal Adrenaline. Evanutally, it turns out he started dating her so Shelby Corcoran could reveal that she was her biological mother.

She is trying in the second season to more supportive and considerate of others in New Directions.

She became a half/adopted sister to Beth Corocan, following the adoption of Beth by Shelby Corcoran from New Directions member Quinn Fabray.
