Looks like Raiders came out 30 years ago today. Given that I'm barely older than it is, I can't even remember the first time I saw it - no doubt it was on a Sunday afternoon telecast or, god, it might have even been on one of those massive Videodiscs that we used to have. Heck of an influential movie.

Wow, that movie still holds up so damn well.

I came to this realization just a little while ago. Movie holds up almost perfectly, personally. It's been a while since I've seen it, but tonight seems like a good time to revisit. Doesn't seem so long ago that I was first watching it on VHS.

Damn, I love Raiders.

I think the indiana jones series has the 'globe trotting adventure' genre LOCKED down. I cant even think of other movies like it. Whenever I think of an adventure movie, Raiders is the first and last movie I think about

Also, the uncharted series wouldn't exist without it.

Thank you George Lucas and Steven Spielberg

Probably my second-favourite movie of all time. After JAWS, of course.

I just hope that when we get the blu-ray it won't have that dumb-ass CGI cliff drop that reportedly turned up in the HD TV broadcast.

Indiana Jones is pretty darn good, maybe they'll release a Blu-ray collection?

@MetalGearSunny: I remember reading somewhere that they were going to be released 2012 on bluray since this year its all about star wars.

God i loved Hollywood before CGI. Can you imaging Raiders if it were made now?

@dirtyoldbum: It's called National Treasure Dumbass.

@dirtyoldbum: Split personality problems mate?

I actually watched Raiders yesterday, and it's still one of my favorite movies. I have the DVD-boxset, but I do hope that this comes out on blu-ray without any shit CGI. It's not bloody needed.

I believe it is the greatest action movie ever made (yes even above Die Hard), and I like two of the three follow-ups, but I won't say which two.  I was also a big fan of the TV series in the 90's.  The child "Indy" wasn't too interesting, but teenage "Indy" played by Sean Patrick Flanery (of Boondock Saints) was a lot of fun especially when he became a soldier during World War I.  I never get tired of the original Raiders movie and count it among my all-time favorites.

Back in the day, it kicked off a few similar genre movies like Romancing the Stone and King Solomon's Mines (with Sharon Stone) and the TV shows, Tales of the Gold Monkey and even Disney's Talespin was influenced by the film.  More recently, I'd say The Mummy and National Treasure follow in its footsteps.  I'd also add video game characters Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider games and Nathan Drake from the Uncharted franchise.
